KBZU to Spanish 95.9 simulcast of 1310 CC going private Predictions Anyone?

Seems like the Spanish programming pool is getting a little heated! One FM talk goes TU and another one is about to hit the air........... I am surprised with all the changes lately there have been no predictions on more market changes. You know all change does is bring more change!

Bueller, Bueller, Bueller............

I still can't believe someone has not tried a Spanish talk format. With all the Spanish speaking people in this part of the country it seems like music is pretty saturated. Nobody going to try a talk format?

Would be something pretty new and possibly revolutionary... No wonder nobody would try it. Here is another idea. Flip to country or classic rock.

Hmmmm...Checked 96.3FM today @ 3:18pm still talk? Do you know what type of spanish programming will be aired on KBZU? As far as SPANISH TALK, well theres PIOLIN (KJFA) (he talks alot) lol...and its workin?!?! Just jokin, a Full blown SPANISH talk station would tank in my opinion, thats just me. Still curious about KBZU a LATINO HIP HOP AND REGGAETON station might work??? (Hmmm the Old MEGA 104.1FM format)...BRING BACK MEGA, BRING BACK MEGA, BRING BACK MEGA!!! HAPPY FOURTH OF JULY TO ALL!!! "I LOVE THIS COUNTRY"

Entravision did try a Spanish News-talk format, Radiovisa a while ago that was on 1450 AM locally. That died, and they put on the Jose jukebox. What we don't need is another Regional Mexican format station. It's apparently the rage, but with La Jefa, Radio Lobo and now La Ley on FM that market has to be saturated. MEGA was great and the niche isn't being filled locally. Can the Latin Hip Hop/Reggaeton format make money in Abq? The other part of the question is, what will Centennial do with 101.3 when they take over?. The Recuerdo format is not doing that great in the Univision pack that Centennial is picking up here, and it's the only station they first mentioned might see a format change. And, from where does it come to light that KBZU is going Spanish?

It is interesting to me that Spanish Talk and/or FM talk are dismissed because they failed once each in this town... Yet, everyone is quick to set up Classic Rock, another regaton, mexican music, country... that all have failed...

Did Spanish talk fail in this town? I guess so, but that was once awhile back and how much support was put into it? Were they serious about trying it or just waiting to change? Same with FM talk. Did it fail? Sure, they dug up a couple of relics and brought one over and it bombed. What about those that did do good over there? Perhaps they were aiming at the wrong target audience...

Nobody looks at why these stations bombed out the one time they did, just dismiss them? Perhaps with the right management, support, personalities, and proper targeting of an audience they would do well. Instead they would just switch over to another Classic Rock or country station that have bombed out countless times...

Example: From reading your topics here it seems many of you don't feel that Hutton is a good radio guy. If you feel that way why would you be surprised that the FM talker bombed? Don't you think if someone good was running it. That is just might have succeeded? I guess we will never know because "it bombed."

Except for LA and Puerto Rico, the format works nowehre. That is why there are only two of them in the US. All the others that have tried have killed the hip hop ad reggaeton and gone all Spanish pop.

No winners in a market that does no self promotion no mater what the format. I could put on Polka and get a 3 share with 50 grand in marketing. KBZU has been nothing for a long time and that will continue until they are sold. Trust operation is a legal sham to hide from the FCC and should be closed up, if you have to sell it then sell it. Look for few changes that matter in the market and good luck taking out JEFA.

I don't doubt you David, but I'm just saying..keep an ear out.

Wow I can say that I agree with the one and only DAVE E.! With out a doubt SUB ZERO ratings NO on cares that MUCH about sports (in spanish) here in NM or Albuquerque for that matter! We (KZNM 106.7FM AGM) took it off our programming we had sports at the top of every hour and at night from 7pm to 6am and it was a STINK BOMB...BAD BAD decision. Again just my humble "O-piñon" again what the hell do I KNOW look at my #'s (hahahaha I HAVE NONE) hahahaha LOVE YOU GUYS and I LOVE RADIO thats what counts. When I stop LOVING and enjoying and looking forward to what I do the I WILL BOW OUT, until then its BOLOGNA for the Rating MAGIC fairy...here fairy, fairy, here fairy, fairy!!! :-*

No doubt some fool will try it. Remember, in Spanish in the Southwest, there are three important sports: soccer, soccer and soccer. They may be punctuated by a few boxing events of importance each year, but there is nothing else. The Spanish dominant listener does not care about American fotball, and very few care about baseball which is only played in a small part of Mexico... same with Basketball.

ESPN in Spanish in LA gets around a 0.3 to 0.4, in a market where 43% is Hispanic and 60% of that group is Spanish dominant... so the math says in ABQ that such a station would get about a 0.1 share at best. If there is enough local sales interst, it may work, but the math does not work on a ratings driven approach.

They're UP! Spanish ESPN....so much for Bob &Tom ----->Dennis Miller. Guess its time to rig up internet streaming in my bathroom.
