Well the boss radio phase on KCCL
has just started on 101.9 at 11:53 P.M. All Hits 101.9 is here!!! KOOL 101.9 is history! The music is more uptempo now too. Stay tuned and enjoy another "Flame Throwing Music Power Hour"
Who would have thought it possible? KROY,KXOA,KNDE,KKDJ,KGW,KJR,KHJ,WABC,WLS,KGB.KCPX,KSTN,KYNO and KFRC live on in Shingle Springs, CA. and over Sacramento. Too bad KFRC-99.7 isn't sounding this good with their music playlist. Now the only question is: Is this just a stunt?

I've been listening to it since midnight. I would hope this is not a stunt. It sounds GREAT. Love the jingles. At least one of them I heard was used at KFRC back in the day (early 70's?) - I'm sure I'm hearing some others that were heard around here years ago...

Agree with you on KFRC - they should listen to KCCL for a few minutes. One thing KFRC has going for them is that the jocks more or less are still allowed to have some personality - not a total loss.

Now on KCCL...Andy Kim - Rock Me Gently!

Well its 5:30 and here he is Mr. Sacramento Radio himself Tony Cox! High Energy rocking radio lives again! Gee, all they need to do now is change the call letters to KIOQ and start playing the Theme to Hawii Five-O and its 1987 all over again! Wheres Gene Lane? Can Terry Knight be far behind. They booted Sweet Lou and Sue Ryan for this? Not to mention Big Jim Hall, Rockin Rick Shannon, and Ron West but maybe they'll be back too just later. I'm waiting.
Tonys great you know, but not that great! O. K. I know give the man a chance, but for what the 10th time now? I have to agree though the music is alot better now but what they were doing last week was good too. Boss Radio/Music Power 101.9 sounds great bringing back the sound of KROY. It's about time. I give it an 8. I like the jingles too. Good Luck Tony and Rick. I really would like to hear Gene Lane back on the radio too but I don't know if he and tony can still get along with each other after the KIOQ experience from the eighties. Good Luck Tony and Rick.

OK so we have the hints from iamfmdj that there was a new boss from down south, the Boss Radio thing makes sense as Boss was mainly from LA. However the Twang Twang Twang reference.... was it just a red herring? I thought of something that would be interesting that would accomodate both hints... First Broadcasting buys KCCL and switches it to a Real Country format. This would answer both the Boss from the south (First is in Dallas) and Twang (Duh.. country.) Well apparently this is not the case, but last night, that theory came to mind... Now if this is a stunt.... hmmmm

Nice Jingles, btw

The boss could also have referred to a consultant they use for the Bomb, the other station in the cluster. He's from Houston.

I was excited about the change at KOOL 101.9 to KCCL 'Boss Radio'101.9. Tuned in the 'new' Boss radio 101.9 this morning, they are playing much the same music they did before the so called 'big' change. They just added a few more songs from the 70's & early 80's and a new jingle package. The new morning show (the 5th show in 5 years) was boring. Big Jim Hall-a 'boss' jock I don't think so. Entravision, Larry Lemanski and Rick Stewart good luck you'll need it.

I agree with the previous posts here... Although it ain't perfect, is certainly is a refreshing change from the generic formats and breaks you hear in every market... The sound is very local... Kinda small-market sounding, but it's welcome to my ears.

No real reason for me that they would choose to brand themselves KCCL. I don't think those call letters hold any significance for anyone here in Sacramento. I think it would have made much more sense to brand themselves as KROY... even if they don't have the right call letters. After all, KHYL calls themselves V101.1.

I'd give folks like Tony Cox a couple of weeks before passing judgement on the new morning show... Let him get the cobwebs out and find his stride. Certainly strange hearing Big Jim Hall talking up Devo's "Whip It."

Yes the change has been made, and as different as it has sound from COOL, I've been overall pleased. This is the first and best progressive or agressive move to get back to radio as it once was. It's not perfect, but it can be. We get too technical on the little things as far as use of call letters, this jock doesn't sound boss enough, or even accusing the move as a stunt.
COOL has been sounding better before this move and after being brainwashed with corporate programming for the last 15 years, finally this station has the guts too move to a direction we been wishing for. They let most of their hair down and didn't approach this move as safely as other format or stations have been for a long time.
Yes the jocks aren't Don Steele, John Records Landecker, etc. but who cares....these guys are sounding like their having fun compared too what it has been. Even some suprises that I wouldn't have considered adding....."La Grange"- ZZ Top, "Dirty Deeds"- AC/DC, they weren't exactly boss hits...but hey they were familiar rock tracks, and their going for that too. Their taking a fun, loose, but professional approach to what it once was. My hats off too them. Quit being technical and let it flow.

The KROY calls, as well as KROI are in Texas now. Of course if they're being used on AM stations there, they could still be used in Sacramento on an FM. I always thought that Y92 missed the boat on the KROY calls. It would've been perfect. Remember Y97?

As for Jim Hall, he actually did weekends at 1240 KROY for a very short time in 1976 before going to KRAK.
