KDAZ's Blackie Gonzales Died From a Stroke on New Years Eve

Blackie had been in Radio here in New Mexico before most of us were born. Never met Blackie or worked with him. Not very many local owners these days but here was one that seem to find a niche and do well. Our best to the Gonzales Family on your loss.

Sad News. Remember His Family in your Prayers and GOD BLESS

The owner of my stations, Don Davis, asked me to post this:

I heard of our loss of Blackie Gonzales, and I want to offer my deepest respects to a man who was a giant in the New Mexico radio industry. To my knowledge, his ownership of KDAZ was the longest continuous local private ownership of any radio station in central New Mexico. Blackie (Belarmino) Gonzales successfully operated KDAZ for many years, and through that operation established and successfully operated KCHF Channel 11 as well. Blackie's devotion to his listeners, viewers and his community reflect the best of broadcasting, and he will be missed. I fully expect that Son Broadcasting's stations will continue to well-serve their audiences for years to come. People like Blackie who are tenacious, positive, and find a way to make things work are a great inspiration to me. My best to his outstanding family and his associates at KDAZ and KCHF. Don Davis
