KDES from Palm Springs to Inland Empire?

Could 96.1 add an on channel booster to cover their main area of spotty reception which is in the eastern sections of Riverside?

If so, wouldn't it be a smart financial decision?

It must be a tough sell to local advertisers when at least 100,000 listeners can't receive a listenable signal strength.

The move to Redlands and the sale of KDES were posted this morning on the FCC audio services division web site, type in KDES on the FM quary. Sale price on the contract is $10.5 million. If you look at paragraph 6.5 you will notice a mention of a proposed purchase of 98.5 KWXY-fm by KDES parent corp. R.R. broadcasting to be completed by the consumation of the KDES sale. I first became aware of a future purchase of the KWXY operation 10 years ago. We recently aquirred KWXY am along with the building and land. Management will only say that after everything is complete we will have 2 fm signals. 100.5 and 98.5 with no comment on surviving formats. The application to move 104.7 will most likely take about a year to be approved. I believe it was about that period of time for the FCC to o.k. KSIQ 96.1's move and downgrade from Brawley to Campo a coupld of years ago.

The sale of KWXY-fm will be filed with the FCC tonight and should be posted by Monday on the audio services division site. From what I understand, the staff at 98.5 was informed of the sale today.

We looked at that when I was involved with 96.1 ... With a good format, KRQB will do just fine. Several I.E. stations have issues because of Box ...

KWIE had over a 4 share 12+ and in the mid 7's 18-34 at its peak. The signal is more than adequate to compete in a major way in the market.

12/04/07 R/R Broadcasting has purchased KWXY-FM for $7.5 million. The KDES calls and format will be moved to 98.5 upon approval of this and the 104.7 conditional sale. The KWXY format and call letters will be moved to either co-owned 1340 or 1450am.
