KDES/KPSI FM Sale announced on KESQ TV news.

Kesq TV advised on their 5 PM news cast that KPSI FM and KDES FM were sold to ALPHA media group (Morris communications ?) by R & R owners. No word on the cost or AM stations but seems like the tide is changing again in the Palm Springs market.

It looks like they are for sale as well. I saw a posting on a station Media Brokers web site offering for sale the two AM stations.

R and R owns three AM stations, not two.

Maybe they are keeping one, maybe they have sold it and not announced the sale yet. Time will tell.

Could be. But I can't think of a worse scenario in all of radio than having a single, stand-alone AM in the Palm Springs market.

Yes AM 1340 KWXY is leasing that translator I think it is owned by some one else and it is an HD2 program on KDES-98.5 how this will go is unsure the 2 FMs still need FCC approval. As they used to say we'll just have to "stay tuned", according to the Desert Sun report the Alpha honchos use an "if it's not broke don't fix it" approach. Time will tell how this will go.

It's owned by a group out of Santa Rosa, with the translator being the only property in the Desert.

KWXY with its Manilow / Sinatro / Tony Bennett format gets pretty good numbers among the ultra-geezers in the market. I can't hear either AM or FM where I live, so can't tell how they are doing commercially but last year WWXY had very good billing, ranking 9th in the market.

Of course, the two leading Spanish language stations together take about a third of the market's billings. And the market is now 52% Hispanic.

Well, RadioInsight reports that they blew up KDES and are simulcasting KDGL for now. The jocks from KDES have been absorbed into KDGL, which will pivot away from classic rock to classic hits. (No word on whether all the new wave cuts that KDES played will pop up over there or not.)

98.5 will launch a new format at some point.

Actually right now 98.5 is the same as 106.9, looking on the web sites Victor Cruz, Jen, Russ O'Hara and the others I don't remember the names are gone whether its temporary or not remains to be seen Hate to see the KDES calls go as they've been around for at least 50 years on both 920 AM and 104.7 FM before the went to 98.5. Also 103.9 is now ESPN sports, 104.3 KFUT is still Christmas (at least at 10:30 this morning. Upstart 105>1 KVGH is my most listened to station now. followed by KRHQ 102.3 Just have to wait till the dust settles on this one.

The two FM's sold for 3 Million. The 1450 AM will be "given" to a local college. That leaves R+R with two AM stations. 920 + 1340. Have no idea what the two remaining AM's are listed for sale as.

I have not followed the story, but what is the status of KWXY. It probably has a small and loyal following, and was just paired with a translator.

KWXY and the translator ("Legend 107.3")
KPTR ("Progressive Talk 1450")
KPSI ("Newstalk 920")
KPSI-FM ("Mix 100.5")

KPSI went with the Alpha transaction. So they have KWXY, KPTR and KPSI-AM. I believe that KPTR is to be donated to a college.

That's interesting, David, since the FCC database now reflects that sale and both KPSI and KPSI-FM are still listed as under R&R Radio Corp. ownership ...

Probably not approved yet, but under an LMA now.

Well, here's the answer, if this really needed one.

Dug into the applications file in CDBS and found that the Forms 314 (Assignment of License) were filed on September 2. KDES-FM, being the former KWXY-FM, is still licensed as "Glen Barnett Inc." because when they were sold R&R opted for a transfer of control of the licensee rather than an assignment of license.

That, of course, threw me when I was doing the original search for "R&R Radio Corp." (Why I didn't remember that the Barnett name was still part of the corporate structure is beyond me, but there you are.)

None of the applications have yet had Commission action; they are all marked "accepted for filing" under status.
