KDKA has dropped the CBS radio news sounder

... cuing the TOH/BOH broadcasts.

I'm surprised this hasn't been commented on yet. (I first noticed last night on the homeward commute; my current work schedule allows my car to pull in KDKA, WBZ, and WBBM in my car during that daypart in the winter.) I guess I'm the only person who cares.

Bad move by KDKA IMO. That CBS sounder gave KDKA's news fanfare attitude! The new one sounds lame.

That said, I miss the '70s/'80s KDKA news fanfare, which said "drama", and which I've been unable to locate on YT.

"Someplace Special... KDKA Pittsburgh Group W Westinghouse Broadcasting! It's five o'clock!"

May I get a link as to where I can hear this sounder as a friendly reminder?

Keep in mind that KDKA is no longer owned by CBS, and CBS News Radio is owned by CBS. They're two different companies now.

It's possible the new sounder is coming from CBS News Radio, and not KDKA.

Seems to me that when KDKA was owned by Westinghouse, they ran NBC News. Most of the Westinghouse stations were NBC affiliates.

I found it! (The sounder is heard at 0:20).

Oh. CBS changed it for a brand new, but familiar, sounder. Is KDKA carrying it?

I noticed that they changed to a new sounder that doesn't quite fit with the flow of the programming. It sounds like they're breaking in for some big national news story.

I know it's NOT the same thing, but listen to this KYW Newsradio 1060 TOH ID from 1983: KYW 1983
It has the "voice of god" narration, timpani, lyrics of importance ("you never needed us more") and even the TOH "beep". I always thought CBS should bring it back after 9/11. Audacy has brought back softer versions of "you never needed us more" since they added 103.9 to 1060.
