Keith Olbermann On Football Night In America

...to me, the most annoying element of NBC's Sunday night NFL coverage is that hideous retread of the great Joan Jett song "I Hate Myself for Loving You." Whatever NBC/Universal paid Joanie to license the melody, it just ain't enough to make us suffer through it...

I agree--I cannot stand Faith Hill's "I've Been Waiting All Week for Sunday Night." Shark jump for Sunday Night Football because of that song ever since Day One of the NBC Sunday Night broadcasts in 2006 (including the Pink version of the Joan Jett classic).

NBC has the worse pregame show. In fact, I avoid and don't watch it. I'll watch NFL Network until their game starts. I totally lost it on them when they "went green" last year by turning off all the studio lights. Plus, I can't get past Olberman's day job. I think it's funny they got rid of Rush for the same reasons they hired Olberman.

No, it's not!!! Faith Hill should not be singing a rock song in the style of a country song!! Pink's version two years ago was sooooo much better because it was sung like the rock song it came from. I think the brass over at NBC want Sunday Night Football to be too much like Monday Night Football when it was on ABC (I think most of the production crew came from ABC) that they even had to change the opening theme to a country song which should have been a completely different song instead trying to cover a hard rock song with a country artist. I think I'm in the majority that thinks NBC should have just made SNF unique to the network and not like ABC's Monday Night Football moved to Sunday on NBC.

FYI: It was ABC/Disney that hired Rush for the ESPN "Sunday NFL Countdown" program. He has not called any NFL games for ESPN. You might be thinking of Dennis Miller - himself a radio host these days...

Preferences aside, the assertion that 'nobody' watches Countdown is pathetically untrue. It has regularly beaten programming on either CNN outlet, and has sometimes beaten Fox programming in the key 25-54 demo. As for MSNBC, it performs its worst during the daytime. And while the channel doesn't often win the night, it certainly doesn't get buried as badly as it once did.

Now, as far as Mrs. Lincoln or the Titanic's cruise director are concerned, you'd probably have to ask John McCain about those, as he is likely to have witnessed both.

Actually I listen to virually everything even country but I think they should've tried to get Kelly Clarkson, Carrie Underwood, Michelle Branch, or someone within their vocal ranges to sing the theme instead of Faith. About the looks yes Faith is easier on the eyes but Pink did fit the song better. And about demographics I doubt they asked fans in the Northeast markets about the theme because Faith's version fits in well with the Peyton Manning fans in Indianapolis but not the Tom Brady fans in the New England region. You've got to realize Peyton and the Colts won the Super Bowl the season before the version change debuted so I think that had something to do with it. Either way I think FNIA is a horrible pregame show, NBC should've tried to get a couple of guys from their old crew from 1997 besides Cris Collinsworth like Ahmad Rashad (Oh wait, he's still kissing Michael Jordan's butt, never mind.), Joe Gibbs (starting this season), Bob Trumpy, Paul Maguire, or most importantly to me brought back Dick Enberg even though he's losing it (see Broncos-Chargers from Week 2.).

Clearly, you can't read.

I find the likes of O'Reilly, Limbaugh, Hannity, Colmes, Matthews and Olbermann equally laughable.

Keith is many things, but a "newsman" he is not. He may fashion himself as an Edward R. Murrow, but his schtick is much more Alfred E. Neuman.

Well....Whatever he's called over at NBC News, I still don't think he's a sports guy anymore.

BTW, Stuart Scott is a clown; I don't know anyone over 14 who thinks he's funny/interesting/cool/talented.

You're right there.

Dennis Miller made a better booth guy & has a cleaner mouth than "Bush Bimbaugh" (A name I've come to commonly refer to Rush Limbaugh as - Bush, which is Rush, but only with a B instead of an R and BIMbaugh because Rush is such a BIMBO when it comes to his political beliefs these days. Add the rest of his last name and it makes sense) was in his one week stint on ESPN and his radio show (Which has LONG since outlived its welcome on the public airwaves IMO).

That's hoo-ha and you know it. Olbermann may very well have lobbied his way onto the slot, but credibility from his stint at a small outfit called ESPN had more to do with it than anything. And it was the same experience that 'free agent' Dan Patrick was added--I'll bet GE nor NBC quizzed him on his political leanings.

You inability to attribute sources properly -- or apparently form an original thought -- has nothing to do with my assessment that both the Fox News and MSNBC commentators are far more interested in ratings than ideology.

One need not be especially astute or even do a very close job of reading to know that I did not place Olbermann and Matthews on the Fox News staff.

as a quick aside, and with a politically-free viewpoint, I've never heard Rush drop the F bomb. Miller has countless times in his stand up act, but again , an aside.

Too many cooks on the NBC NFL show. Guaranteed next year, when they dont have the Super Bowl, there will be some pairing off of talent. Olbermann and Patrick were fun in the 90s, and chances are they will be "contained" after this season. Keith, until he fit in news, as a commentator, has always had a d d. Never in once place with one job for too long. Back to the news division.

Bob Costas is there..because....hes a traffic cop and familiar.He can anchor the highlights. Give more to Collinsworth, and slow down the bus on his diatribes.
