Kelly Clarkson Replacing Injured Judge Simon Cowell on America's Got Talent

With Simon Cowell on medical leave, America’s Got Talent is injecting some temporary new blood into its judging panel.

TVLine has learned that Cowell’s former American Idol discovery, Kelly Clarkson, is set to fill his seat alongside fellow judges Howie Mandel, Heidi Klum and Sofia Vergara during this week’s inaugural live shows.

In a tongue-in-cheek statement, the Kelly Clarkson Show host (and recent Daytime Emmy winner) said, “My friend, Simon Cowell, is doing better now but was in an accident and won’t be able to make Tuesday and Wednesday’s live shows for AGT. But no worries America, someone far wiser, cooler, and hotter is taking his seat! The unbelievably amazing Kelly Clarkson ? You’re welcome in advance!”

Only been on the air since 2006.

But Major Bowes Amateur Hour debuted in 1934.

And we had Star Serarch and there's American Idol. So the idea is hardly original or new; it just has more annoying hosts.

In the nearly 40 years that the Amateur Hour lasted on radio and TV, they only discovered a few lasting stars: Teresa Brewer, Lily Pons, Pat Boone, Gladys Knight, Ann-Margret, Jose Feliciano, Irene Cara and Tanya Tucker. Not many for 1,651 shows!

Oh, and then there was the Hoboken Four. Never heard of 'em? They had this singer named Sinatra...

Curious fact: Louis Farrakhan appeared playing a violin under his birth name of Louis Wolcott.

The goal of the original Amateur Hour wasn't to discover lasting stars. It was to entertain viewers and sell advertising. it did that very well.

AGT has the same goals and is also successful.

I want "The Gong Show" to return.

I'm not saying I wouldn't like the people on AGT but there was more of a reason to watch the other show. Some of those people were actually talented. It was fun to see the comments of the judge and Mike Myers, who supposedly denied being the host, did a great job.
