Ken Weatherwax, Pugsley from 'The Addams Family,' dead at 59

One of his obits ran a quote from a recent interview he did with Bill O'Reilly in which he expressed his disappointment with his lack of a career after The Addams Family. This kind of come-down must be devastating for child actors, and the reason many of them have emotional and substance abuse problems. After Pugsley, he was probably too young to realize he wasn't any kind of star, and that his "career" held little promise - especially for a kid that wasn't particularly wholesome or all-American looking, to put it politely.

One can only hope that he didn't have a sad life because of it. Jon Provost (Lassie) is an example of a child actor who seemed to have excelled in life without acting.

And speaking of which - I believe there's a family connection between Ken, and Rudd Weatherwax, the man who trained all the Lassies back in the day.

You mean Rudd Weatherwax.

One of the other child stars who couldn't make the transition was Rusty Hamer from "Make Room For Daddy." Supposedly, he was allowed to get away with murder on the set, and once the series ended he was no longer the cute little kid. Sadly, he ended up killing himself in 1990--one year before his TV father, Danny Thomas, died.
