Kent Phillips leaving Star at the end of the year; Louts names Regional VP/Programming

Job well done Kent. You earned this retirement, congratulations. Whether it was on TV, co-hosting Northwest Afternoon with Elisa Jaffe, or on the radio with STAR, Kent has always been a friendly face and friendly voice on the Seattle airwaves.

I think more about Kent and KPLZ should be offered. In the mid 80’s he and Alan moved to Seattle from Portland. They were a tremendous hit in both cities. KPLZ eventually beat KUBE in the late 80’s. The morning show usually drives the ratings, and the KPLZ morning show was perhaps the game changer. Finally KPLZ was competitive with KUBE. Then both stations tried different formats that brought the competition to an end. Sad, but what a nice history!

i worked with Kent and Allen back in the Portland days and did client tie ins with them over the years. Kent is absolutely a class act and I have always been amazed how many irons he could keep in the fire (at one point he was doing community theatre as well). Congrats to anyone who makes it that long and kudos especially to him. The biggest shame is that for most of the years he worked for a TV company that does radio on the side, now he would finally get to be part of a radio group that is about RADIO. Ironic.
I am excited for what's next for both Kent AND for KPLZ and feel very privileged to have been shared firsthand some details about LOTUS's plans for the station and think they are headed in a great direction.

Alisa Hashimoto is also named to leave Star 101.5 FM Seattle.

It's interesting to note that Kent Phillip's 35 years means that he goes back to when the station was Top 40 as "Z101.5".
