Kevin cohen to lease wqxl and its fm translator

According to an article in The State on Sunday, former WVOC talk show host Kevin Cohen is leasing WQXL AM 1470 and its FM Translator at 95.9 from Glory Communications for an unspecified length of time. The start date is Oct 28th. Kevin will host mornings from 6-9am. The rest of the schedule will be mostly conservative talk including Herman Cain and Laura Ingraham. This will make it the 4th Talk station in the Columbia market.

A website is already up and running: makethepointradio.com

Thoughts?

Columbia is the state capital, but I don't know if it can support 4 talk stations. Maybe with the right promotion. Charleston, a market with no major college teams had four sports signals for a few months, but now we're down to two, both owned by the same company.

Four years later, Keven's WQXL has become a unique and diverse local community radio station outside of the national talkers and pretty much has the last laugh these days, especially with Gary David "Bamboozle" still over at WVOC.
