Keys Corpus Christi to flip to ESPN Sports???

Heard around town from 3 independent sources. Staff meeting going on right now.

Stay Tuned.

While checking out the post (I have a compulsion to fact check everything) I came across the wiki entry for the other local sports station, KSIX.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/KSIX

While I'm sure it's accurate about current programming, KSIX's storied past is totally absent. Someone should add KSIX's history. All I remember is the easy listening music and Gene Looper's "Corpus Christi Speaks" man-on-the-street shows.

Going to happen this week.

I think the guys that do the The Bench Warmers show on Saturday may have a full time show on KEYS. One of the reasons they switched may be because of the success of that show on Saturday.

Ummm.. I question how much "Success" there can be based on two hours a week on Saturdau morning.

KEYS has been an underperforming talker for several years, slowly making one bad decision after another until they basically fell off the map all together. They've had four different linups between 6A and Noon in the last 2 years..

Jones/Boortz
Von Wade/Miller
Mancow/Boortz
America's News/Ingraham

Now ESPN. ESPN Radio was slowly replaced by KSIX after they found out it didn't sell. It will be interesting to see if KEYS can do any better with it. Although from what I've heard on the KEYS air, commercial-wise, almost anything would be an improvement.

Very few ads on the Corpus Christi Rays broadcasts on KEYS last year, I was hearing a lot of PSAs.

I'm not sure it's fair to blame that on KEYS. While they have had their share of sales issues, commercial content in Iceray games have always been the responsibility of the team. The contract has traditionallly been brokered.

Maybe the KEYS deal was different.

KEYS should talk to Border Media in Austin. They have tons of local spots on their ESPN station despite so-so ratings.

KSIX is the only station to have been a part of the Astros Radio Network every single year.

Go 'Stros!!
