Kfi 640 in los angeles is mostly local why cant 840 whas? Both r clear channel

In los angeles kfi is all local except for rush and george noory why can't 840 whas be like that?

I can't stand the overnight show with george noory yuk!!! Kfi has john and ken for afternoons pretty good show.If anyone remembers back in the late 90s john and ken were syndicated on overnights on 790 wwky.I am not confusing them with john and jeff different show.

I know we are a small market but still it just sux what clear channel has done to whas and for that matter all there stations here in town. Noone can honestly tell me from a point of view of quality radio they are much better stations since clear channel bought them???

Because operating budgets are a lot bigger in Market #2 than they are in Market #54.

I love Coast to Coast AM with George Noory,I listen to it going to work in the morning on WHAS(one of the better signals on AM). I want it to stay on WHAS,the show gets great ratings as well!
 
I just did some research. Total radio revenue in the Louisville market is probably in the range of $30 million to $35 million per year. Los Angeles radio revenue is estimated at around $1 billion (with a "b") per year. In other words, L.A. radio revenue is roughly 30 times bigger than Louisville radio revenue.

That should answer any questions about the relative talent expense levels of the two markets.

I don't think Milton Metz ever made an extravagant salary...talent doesn't take a lot of money necessarily, just passion. A nice crisp booming voice doesn't hurt either...
 
Clear Channel has a live and local talk station in Cincinnati. It's between 6 and 8 on the AM dial and the call letters are WL...something.

Yes. A market with about three times the total revenue as Louisville.

Plus, WLW bills an amount respectable for a major market station.
 
I don't understand this discussion.

KFI is live except for Rush and Noory.

WHAS is live except Rush and Noory and 3 more hours. (KFI runs hours of Noory, WHAS runs 5 and adds Bill Cunningham.)

Does that 9pm-midnight shift really make such a big difference between market 2 and 54?
 
Yes that 3 hours at 9-midnight is a big deal and right now aside from last week the 9am-noon is not been local.Them dropping joe elliott at night to go syndicated was really dumb!!!And weekends are the worse wall to wall syndication and i use to really enjoy drudge bill cunningham is garbage.

That's a cop out dude. You are saying that you can only get good talent by throwing money at it? Then explain Terry Meiners. I can bet Meiners is pulling down some serious corn and he sucks.

You want good talent you have to develop and find good talent. This was the first radio job Francene had and she did a great job.

Just throwing money at something does not guarantee results. Besides, where do you think the talent for the Los Angeles markets come from? They come from markets like Louisville.
 
Ziegler went from whas to kfi and if he would behave he would still have one of the jobs. Now jane norris did the opposite she was at kfi and came to whas but she was just part time at kfi so it was justified going from market 2 to market 54 and for those that remember kiss 104 in the early 90s you had tony cruise do the morning show with frosty stillwell who is in los angeles these days on kabc.

Louisville has beeen a breeding ground for bigger markets.

I bet francene would be at a bigger market station if she had chosen to be.
 
Terry's been on the air in Louisville since 1981. He makes money mostly because of nostalgia and because a household name is good for the station, even if he has kinda gone downhill as of late. Is he still "ditchin the dish"? Ugh. I digress.

Money isnt a cop out. Its how business works. Times are tough for radio and most PDs dont want to chance paying for mediocre talent.

Well let's see...3 of WLW's hosts have been at the station since the 80s winning their time slot. Another has been across the hall for about as long. They could have easily taken WLW syndicated if they had wanted to. I'm all for GOOD local talent but not "local just because a guy is plopped in a chair in town".You don't build WLW overnight

Doesn't it take a whole team? Can the force of one personality do it? You need good production values, good sound, commercial sets that fit the station personality and are entertaining. For me personnally, all or more most on-air personalities must have interesting, clear voices and clear headed thinking...i turn off any station immediately if they vere off into extreme, unsubstantiated political statements or if they have an annoying speaking style.

P.S. is hotpatrick really hot?
