If it's true nobody's going to listen. How do I know this? When CBS turned off KFRC 610 and left the oldies only on the FM it didn't cause a dip in the ratings. 610 has a phenomenal signal that is city grade in SF, Oakland, San Jose and even Sacramento. 1550 has a poor signal by comparison.
David, its on today's R&R Website. Top of page. BTW I'm so unimpressed by the news don't misread my sarcasam. I know it not going anywhere in the ratings also. Like I said Oh! Wow! Or should that be "Big Wow!" Or maybe "Big F-ing Deal!"
Since I don't know much about this TRUE OLDIES FORMAT, How True is is? Is it the Traditional 50's and 60's Oldies (i.e. Elvis, Buddy Holly, Richie Valens, The Beach Boys) or will it be the same 60's and 70's CLASSIC HITS music that was on KFRC-FM? Also I wonder if M. DUNG will survive the change or if his IDIOT SHOW will be dumped?
You can hear it online at www.trueoldieschannel.com . It was originally more centered in the 60's, and when Mr. Shannon went into some major markets, the 70's and even the token 80's stuff would appear more than before. The TOC is very good, and you'll hear lots of good stuff on it..

I know there are a few of you that are excited about getting back something with the "KFRC" call letters attached to it...as if that poorly executed 106.9 effort wasn't bad enough. This one will be even sadder. As I said in the other thread, IMO - the podcast format is a better use of a limited AM signal. It allowed talented people like M. Dung to broadcast interesting programming that we wouldn't otherwise get a chance to hear.
Though yet another Oldies format (yawn) will no doubt draw a bigger audience than "K-You," it will not generate significant ratings. See...here's the problem:

Haha - All it has to get is a one share and it'll be doing almost as well as most of CBS's FMs in San Francisco.
Maybe they'll let John Mac do the morning show! and if Sue Hall is still under contract maybe she'll do the Mid-day show.
If they do a local AM drive show, isn't it required to be hosted

From the press release, quoting CBS/SF Market Manager Doug Harvill:
"We are pleased to announced that KFRC and Oldies are starting the new year in the Bay Area ... Scott Shannon has done a terrific job helping us put together an entertaining station playing the music that KFRC listeners have enjoyed for years."
Oh, okay.
That makes it sound like Michael Scott Shannon actually has helped to construct something unique for 1550 AM here, but I've got the feeling it's the same canned True Oldies programming that's going out to every other burgh on their affiliate list.
If that's the case, don't call it KFRC, because that ain't what this is. The heritage of KFRC was great radio, so call this KOBY or something that makes sense.
It wasn't the music that made KFRC "an entertaining station." It was the people, the presentation, the localness (including the news and public affairs) and the commitment to great radio that made KFRC "an entertaining station." Don't do something on the cheap and pretend like it's the same as going out and building a real station.

Sidebar: the KFRC website (www.KFRC1550.com) and the KYou website (www.KyouRadio.com) are still chugging along with no updates. You'd think that, with big news like this, you'd want to get the word out. Maybe get a few listeners interested.

Best Bay Area OLDIES Station was the Old KOFY-1050
I agree. Even when KFRC-610 made the change to BIG BAND/STANDARDS as MAGIC 61 in 1986, It still sounded great albeit with a different format. 610 seemed to go downhill when they simply simulcasted their OLDIES FM Station in 1993. My Favorite Bay Area OLDIES Station in the Last 30 Years was James Gabbert's version of KOFY-1050 (1986-91). Nice blend of Vintage Oldies from the 50's and 60's. If I remember right, Wasn't KOFY's Official Theme Song (If You Want To Call It That?) "PERCOLATOR by BILLY JOE AND THE CHECKMATES? They seemed to play that song alot, probably because they were known as "COFFEE 1050".BossRadioDJ said:

The scary thing is that CBS might be using this as a trial to automate all their classic hit stations, some of which are still good.
