KFRO-AM and KCUL-AM to flip to Christian "The Way".

I suspect you'd have more fun and less problems by putting the money in a new car... :)

I agree! I remember someone at KHYM who seriously wanted to buy 1060 back in '95.. I told him "NO!!". ;D

I think that KOFY would be a great addition to the Hanzen Broadcasting Company. He is probably the only one that seems to have a talent for turning around Russell terds and making them something. In 2006 Jerry Russell had an offer from Waller for 500K for AM 1060 and Russell turned it down! He said it wasnt enough KOFY was worth 750K. But times have changed he might take 100K at this point.

That would be great, I would love to see it happen. But again the question remains even if 1060 was finally ran and maintained responsibly (strong signal and sound) could it be profitable with AM's dwindling listenership? And I've always wondered if KOFY could be moved off the 1060 frequency without changing pattern or daytime power?

That's doubtful, especially with that much power non-directional, but I've wondered about the possibilities as well. There just aren't any first, second or third adjacent frequencies that would work so you'd be looking at a "major" change. One of the only frequencies available for use in Gilmer might be 1020, which was proposed for Tyler during the last AM filing window back in 2004. That application (for 5.5Kw day and 350 watts night) was dismissed in 2008, losing out to an applicant for a new station in Sterlington LA, although the other party failed to act on it. Even if 1020 was found to be an option, though, getting approval for a major change would be difficult and it's unlikely that such an expensive project would be worth it in the long run.

The only way to fix it is to move it to the expanded band the next time that is allowed, and then it can do 10KW day and 1KW night

That might help, KOFY should have applied for one when they were available. And where the tower is now the night signal would be only good for Kilgore, Gladewater and maybe Longview. I wish somebody in East Texas would have picked up that 1610 Atlanta TX license when they gave it up.

I heard KFRO and "The Way". OMG what horrible programming I believe a redneck belching contest would be more compelling radio.

Yeah, but they are probably making money doing it...

Most religious programming asks listeners to mention what station they're listening to when they send them their questions, prayer requests or money. Once Moody figures out nobody in East Texas is listening to 1370-1410 they'll pull the plug.

No promotion, dead air, low audio, and one midday I could faintly hear the Ranch playing in the background behind the talk. I'd rather hear the belching contest too.

Actually there are no local spots on 1370 or 1410 yet so no money made!

Doesn't matter. Religious broadcasters very rarely use an advertising-based business model. Moody is most likely paying in advance for the airtime it's getting on 1370 and 1410. So, the stations should be making money so long as the checks clear!

MOODY IS NOT REPEAT NOT PAYING TO BE ON THE AIR!!!! I HAVE LOOKED INTO THE AFFILIATION AGREEMENTS. SO LET ME SAY IT AGAIN, MOODY IS NOT PAYING FOR THE AIRTIME!

But they are selling block air time to local churches who want to get their version of "The Word" out. There is money in running church services and preaching. I'm sure they are not getting rich doing this, but because Marshall is not rated and Longview can get The Ranch on FM - so who would want to listen to an awful signal on KFRO - they weren't really getting any income for the old format either.

IMHO there would be lots better things that could be done with these frequencies but for better or worse, this is what ETRG has chosen to do.

So the Moody programming is just free filler for ETRG for them to sell airtime to churches?

Great idea if 1370-1410 had powerful signals that didn't sound like an over-compressed phoneline. I haven't heard anything local yet except for Sunday mornings. 1060 would have been the best signal in East Texas for this kind of programming.

I didnt even hear any local station ID's at the top of the hour when I was listening to them. Yes the Moody thing is free for KFRO and KCUL.

ETRG is not covering up the ID with KFRO Longview. I heard an ID for "WJSO Pikeville" which is the non commercial Moody Radio affiliate in Pikeville Kentucky. Totally illegal. It shows East Texas Radio Garbage doesn't care about running this format.
