"Salem is the "number one provider of religious broadcasting" in America. Why would you ever want to post something negative about any of their products if you need to gain consistent employment in christian radio? Even if you feel in your opinion they are doing something poorly? Most rational "professionals" will not post that opinion."
I disagree. Professionals should and will voice educated opinions in order to investigate and understand strategies. And I don't think that is a threat to a company at all. You don't get to be #1 without a teachable spirit, great understanding, good ears, and a willingness to be better than you are today.
But the posts that usually turn up here are not educated opinions or even honest desires to challenge and grow. For the most part, the posts slam Salem for not being "Jesus enough" or "Christian enough". The thread that began the debate was that because those particular sentiments have been expressed on these boards, maybe that is evidence that Salem ought to change the way they do things. That isn't even strong anecdotal research to put it mildly.
"I am not constrained by economics in stating my opinon."
True, a good professional will usually season with salt and learn diplomacy early on...some of us direct more abrasive personalities don't fair well everywhere (every great messenger needs their "John the Baptist"). But to imply that fear is what is keeping the pros out, I think is naive.
"Discouraging specific kinds of posts(within the moderators limits) is not positive IMO"
Again, my plea is for more PRODUCTIVE posts. Positive communication over negative critism that sometimes seems no more than an opportunity for some to get their opinions "broadcast" somewhere.
It's not everyone's desire...but yes, it is most certainly mine.
