If I remember correctly Forrest Spencer had us tape something to the effect of just about every other show... I think. Not just Duke's but also the weekend daytime slots. There was a precious few of them that I was able to put in my own tape in and archive an hour or so.

I have torn into my tape library and I found only one show of open phones with Duke.

I don't know about the rest of the people on this board, but I would welcome it.

I did find a tape dated September 25. 1988.
"Duke Shurlaw/KFYI"
I hand wrote on the label, "save-please".
This could be the tape in question. No idea if it was open phone.
It has been close to 20 years since it's been recorded/listened to.
At this late date, I have no idea as to the quality of the tape stock.
I can say that the tape, along with my airchecks from various stations, was kept in a closet, away from heat and light.
Humidity is another story. I did work in the South, with hurricanes, tropical storms and overall wet conditions.

On the other side is a recording of a "Lee Tate/KFYI" show from July 10, 1988.
His guest was Ron Bellis, former mouthpiece of former Gov Evan Mecham.

Can anyone recommend a cassette player that can be connected to a computer, so I can pull the audio and record it to a CD?

A trip to Circuit City is now in the book.

Here is how I do it, (and it works out ok) I went out and found a "home" cassette deck at a local 2nd hand store
for about 5 bucks and then went to radio shack and got a cable (RCA pair to stereo 1/8th inch) and went into the line in jack on my sound card. I have numerous audio and video production programs (pro tools, Cool Edit Pro, Adobe, Audacity, Sound Forge, & Vegas) If configured correctly (which is very simple) should get you the results you desire.

This is to Christine- I know who you are! Not in a creepy way-I am Duke's neice, and Billy's(Duke's brother) best friend. If you would like to, reply back to me...Billy would love to talk to you also...he just got off the phone w/me a few moments ago, and told me about this site and that he remembers you, and liked you, when you were dating my uncle. I'm assuming this is the right person...
 
I'd love to hear any of those Duke Shirlaw tapes...it's been far too long! And it'd be wonderful if more people could hear Duke's work from back then.
 
I asked someone, they told me Duke died a few years back of a heart attack in some apartment, and he was divorced in ill heath?

I was shocked (as I still am today). I stayed up every Saturday night to listen.
I went to Japan to live with those little people. I am still there today. They appreciate disco.


Goodbye Duke, you will never be forgotten.

I was a huge fan of TMOTDN and later had the great blessing to know Duke as a colleague. I was terribly saddened to learn of his passing at the time. I often wish that he was still with us and could weigh-in on world happenings -- something tells me that he'd probably be more than a little ticked. He deserves to be long and well remembered for what he was able to create on the Phoenix airwaves -- it was lightning in a bottle. Everyone who knew it belongs to a special club and should post a story or memory.

I also had the honor of knowing the one-and-only Ramon. However, the last time I saw him was in 1991 when we went to watch Terminator 2 together. He was so disturbed by the glimpse of the future (Skynet hates disco), he jumped into his time-bending Ford Pinto and headed fast for 1977. Rumor was his Pinto broke down after arriving -- something about a faulty funk capacitor. I've imagined him living as a disco-era Eddie Wilson ever since.

I will do a 56 minute show on skype, shoutcast, or some other site on November 14th in honor of the Great Duke Shirlaw from the last place on earth where Disco legitimized, North Korea (ok near the North Korean border). Dis is no joke!

To the last poster, the Popular Front for the Liberation of Disco is not a terrorist organization!

Ramone, the Crown Prince of Disco ( my older brother cracked his head open after a fall from his platform shoes).
