Yeah, KLIV is strictly "Silicon Valley's News Station" and they bill themselves as such. But for the small operation they are, they do a wonderful job. Traffic reports are by far the most comprehensive you'll hear anywhere, as long as you're south of the Dumbarton Bridge or so. Plus they have probably 6 or 8 local news stories per hour. The national news is the audio from CNN, which can get weird at times when they're referring to a picture that you can't see. But overall they do an excellent job given what they have to work with. No surprise, it's locally owned.
As D.E. pointed out, the signal is marginal. Daytime it's 5 KW non-directional, but that high dial position is a real killer. The nighttime directional pattern sends most of the signal away from the population. So it's a compromised facility from the get-go.
