KGO-AM Named to run the 2012 Season of the 49ers.

Does this mean the games are off KSAN? When the Giants' baseball season ends, will 49ers games be simulcast on KGO, KNBR and possibly KSAN?

Leave it to Cumulus! :)

So is Cumulus saying that the 49ers will no longer air on KNBR at all? That's really unusual to drop an NFL franchise from a sports station! When the Giants season ends in October/November, KNBR will not carry the 49ers? Cumulus had better hope the Warriors are good this year!

The Cincinnati Bengals simulcast on three CC stations. The games are simulcast on 1530 The Sports Animal, rocker WEBN (102.7 FM) and news/talk WLW (700 AM) at the end of the Reds baseball season.

So now who's the 49ers flagship station? :)

This is being done in my opinion to boost KGO ratings from the low they now sit at, even if it is during football season only ,it'll look good on the books.

Anybody know how good or bad KGO is doing from 9AM-12Noon weekdays and on weekends ,compared to the rest of the time when they do news ?

I thought that's why the games air on KSAN, plus that it's on FM. KSAN has aired the entire 49ers schedule the past several years. ???

Yes -- is there any OTHER reason to run sports on the radio?

I listened for about one minute. I think I heard the name Ted Robinson and two others. No Joe Starkey (sp?) what about him? He's been the 49er radio guy for a long tiome.

Joe Starkey retired several years ago. Ted Robinson replaced Starkey as 49ers pxp man. :)

Wait didn't KGO use to air Stanford Football and UC Berkeley Football the last time they had the 49ers under ABC Radio ownership.

Oh, thanks. Had not heard. I don't like the 49ers. Don't listen much. Partly because I'm usually when the game is on and if I'm home I'd rather watch it on TV. For radio, just a lamount in the car now and then. My favorite teams are Miami and whoever is playing against the 49ers.

KSAN does not have the footprint that KGO does. Boosting cume is probably part of the reason for coverage on KGO, but covering the whole Bay Area is likely more important to the 49ers.

I really dislike a non sports station doing sports. What I mean is a dislike when a station I like will deviate from their usual programming to air a sports event. KGO used to do it a lot with college football and (49ers?) And 98.5 FM used to do Sharks games. I hated tuning into KGO to hear a good show only to find out that football is being aired instead. 98.5 was one of the last stations I tuned into for music (when AM wasn't interesting) and it was a real bummer to find out it's Sharks instead. I think KGO used to do Raider games in the early or mid 1980s. They called "Raider Radio 81"
