KGO-TV renames ABC 7 News to Eyewitness News

Eyewitness News WZZM used that brand for many decades maybe when Hearst sold WZZM to TEGNA in 98 was when they dropped the branding. I have always liked Eyewitness News & Action News which no one in West Michigan ever used Action News in their news branding.

True and it’s all because the movie Anchorman the viewers in the Southland think that way given how much Will Ferrel’s team put the emphasis on how Greene looked at the time when he was in San Diego. But the crew on Anchorman referenced Mort Crim the then Philadelphia and Detroit tv Anchor as their inspiration.

Tom McGee in the Charleston-Huntington (WV) market may not have been the inspiration for Ron Burgundy, but he very well could have been:

Watch at about 1:33 and afterwards, and you'll see what I mean. Sadly, Mr McGee is no longer with us.

To have been the most shoestring-budget newscast imaginable, they didn't do a half-bad job. WHCP is now WQCW and is basically a sidecar to Gray's WSAZ in Huntington. While they have no meaningful presence in Portsmouth (city of license) proper, they provide adequate news coverage for southeastern Ohio, and the WSAZ newsroom is only about a mile from the state line in Huntington. It's a similar situation to WEHT/WTVW in Evansville, with studios in Henderson KY.

Here is more this time Disney owned ABC Affiliates will appear on the Disney+ app this includes KGO-TV and its sister stations.
