KGTV (ABC) San Diego today announced that their NewsChannel 15 is oing to end up on Cox's digital tier on channel 110 and Time Warner 210 so they can premiere their affiliation with a low power TV station which will be showing TV Azteca. Undoubtedly they will have some local newscast so they can go head-to-head with NBC 7/39's Mexican TV station. SOunds like they think they'll make bagillons more by doing this.

Frankly, I think it will be a bomb as they are cutting another piece of the pie as a Johnny-Come-Lately.

Expect more of that sort of thing as the digital broadcast and cable tiers become more and more viable and broadcasters recognize them as potential revenue streams. In Sacramento, KCRA has three of its services on Comcast: the main signal; the HD upconvert signal (with NBC original HD programs); and their "WeatherPlus" channel (digital OTA 35-2). KXTV just rolled out "News10-2" which is their OTA digital 61-2, for extended coverage of breaking news and special events. It's to be added to Comcast early in 2006.

And I can't wait for them to force us all to have digital, just as an excuse to charge us even more money. But that's for a different board...

I think the Newschannel 15 thing is a disgrace. That kind of thing should not be available at a premium. It wasn't that good to begin with. Nothing more than a constant replay of 10News newscasts, and doesn't even hold a matchstick (much less a candle) to New England Cable News (NECN) out on the east coast, which has a full time news staff.

Everything KGTV does news wise is a disgrace...a bunch of amateurs with Carol LeBeau being the beacon of annoyance...although when I met her twice she is truly a lady.
