"Kicks on Route 66" - songs with city titles. Fantasy weekend programming

Re: "Kicks on Route 66" - songs with city titles. Fantasy weekend programming

"Mississippi Mud" - Bing Crosby

The song was written in 1927 and was first made popular by Bing Crosby when he was still a member of The Rhythm Boys. Due to political correctness, the original lyrics in the refrain line have been changed from, "When the darkies beat their feet on the Mississippi Mud." to, "When the people beat their feet on the Mississippi Mud."

Good pick ... haven't heard that tune in ages. Jankowski was an excellent classical pianist.

A long thread and haven't been able to look through all of it. One that comes to mind is "Girl on the billboard" by Del Reeves.

I am pretty sure Crazy Elephant's "Gimme Gimme Good Lovin'" was mentioned, even though the city isn't in the title. Everywhere else is mentioned in the lyrics, however.

Love Train, by the OJays would be another one;
Night Train, by James Brown and The Famous Flames would be another one.

If they were that flighty and goofy, he had a better time; and who knows whether he picked up a sweet hitch-a-hiker? (CCR)
