I thought Winslow got a mention in the song? ???
Nope, Winslow is not mentioned in “(Get Your Kicks On) Route 66".
How about some trivia, since this song is the theme of this thread? "
Route 66 " was composed in 1946 by American songwriter and actor Robert Troup. Troup’s songwriting credits list many popular tunes which have been recorded by well known artists, i.e.,
“Daddy” (1941) – Sammy Kaye
"Snootie Little Cutie" (1941) - Tommy Dorsey and His Orchestra featuring Frank Sinatra on vocals
"(Get Your Kicks On) Route 66" (1946) - recorded by the Nat King Cole Trio, Bing Crosby and the Andrews Sisters, Chuck Berry, The Rolling Stones and more
"The Girl Can't Help It" (1956) - Little Richard
"Their Hearts Were Full Of Spring" - The Four Freshmen, The Beach Boys
"The Meaning of the Blues" - Miles Davis
"Girl Talk" - Tony Bennett
"Baby, Baby, All The Time" - Nat King Cole
Let's Keep Dancing" - Peggy Lee
Troup produced torch singer Julie London's million selling hit record "
Cry Me a River" in 1955 and they married five years later. Troup’s acting career placed him in numerous spotlights, including: “The Gene Krupa Story” (he played the role of Tommy Dorsey); as Dr. Joe Early in the TV series “Emergency”; a cameo on the M*A*S*H TV series as a disgruntled jeep driver for Hawkeye and Trapper where his only line of dialogue was, “Goddamn Army!”

At any rate, a couple of interesting tidbits about Route 66: in Illinois, it parallels Interstate 55, while from Oklahoma City westward, it parallels Interstate 40. Both interstates pass through Memphis, although they actually intersect in West Memphis, Arkansas. (I'm not sure how they explained having an even-numbered highway paralleling an odd-numbered interstate, but that's the way it was done in Illinois!)
More Route 66 trivia:
Over the years, Rte 66 has had numerous realignments. Early Rte 66 (through New Mexico) left Santa Rosa and meandered north towards Las Vegas (NM) and Santa Fe, then traveled south through Albuquerque to Los Lunas where it then turned west to Grants. In 1937, a straight-line route was completed from west of Santa Rosa through Moriarty and east-west through Albuquerque and west to Laguna. This newer routing saved travelers as much as four hours of travel through New Mexico.
So, in reading of the original route of US 66 and its realignment, what makes this an important piece of trivia? Here it is boys and girls – are you ready for this? Pre 1937 US 66 came through Albuquerque from north to south following present day 4th street on its way to Los Lunas. After the 1937 realignment the route of US 66 through Albuquerque followed present day Central Ave on a straight through east – west alignment.
Here’s the kicker (finally, for those who had the temerity to continue reading): In downtown Albuquerque the intersection of 4th Street and Central Ave is the only location in the U.S. where Rte 66 crosses itself. (It is marked with signage.) Imagine the confusion at the cab company when a drunk calls for a ride and tells the dispatcher, “I’m at the corner of Rte 66 and Rte 66.”
