"Kicks on Route 66" - songs with city titles. Fantasy weekend programming

Re: "Kicks on Route 66" - songs with city titles. Fantasy weekend programming

For some reason I seem to remember a tune from the early 70's called "Sweet Virginia Beach Breeze". I think it was Bill deal and the Rhondales who did it but it has been YEARS since I have heard it.

Somewhat related to this..when Barry Manilow's "It's A Miracle"first came out I can remember hearing a few djs back then call it "From Boston to Denver.

"Sweet Virginia Breeze" was a staple on EZ104 and Lite 98 and is etched into my brain. It wasn't Bill Diehl . but a local singer Steve Bassett.

I wish I could be more specific, but the music called "Beach Music" played in Virginia and the Carolinas contained loads of references to Myrtle Beach and other resort communities.

Wasn't there an old big band era song about Kalamazoo?
"I've Got A Gal In Kalamazoo" - the Glenn Miller Orchestra, featuring Tex Beneke (on vocals)

See the clip on you-tube for this song which features a great dance routine by the fabulous Nicholas Brothers (from the 1942 motion picture, "Orchestra Wives.)

Rush Limbaugh uses an edited version of this great tune as his show's opening theme song. There was some momentary controversy [a few years back] surrounding copyright and such, but things worked out with Chrissie and Rush continues to use the fabulous bass line of "My City Was Gone" for his opening.

I'm sure some sort of "deal" (involving $$$$, of course) was worked out between Chrissie and Rush that allowed him to continue using her music as his opening theme. I just wonder what her fans think of that? ;D

Only problem is, every time I hear "My City Was Gone," I think I am about to hear Rush Limbaugh come on! ;D

"God Bless the U.S.A." by Lee Greenwood. (Or as I sometimes call him, Green Leewood! ;D) Qualifies because of the title, but also because of all the locations named within the lyrics.

Listening to some Elvis tonight. "Promised Land" qualifies for this thread because of all the cities and towns named in it. (I believe it is actually a Chuck Berry song, but is best known by Elvis.)

Also, "Guitar Man," although I wasn't listening to that one tonight. ;D

That's a lot of high schools that he had to mention.

A few years ago an Lp or CD with all 28 versions was released.
