According to Don Barrett Kim Amidon is replacing Brian McKnight, joining Kim Prescott for mornings starting Monday, May 17th. Congrats to Kim! It will be good for hear her in morning drive again.

Does anyone think that if Mark's contract expires he would go over to the WAVE and have the Mark and Kim show again?

I'd bet that if the money was right he'd do it. Depends. The real question is if he's even wanted by the Wave? Doesn't matter what Mark wants if CBS has no interest. I would guess that he would have to take a substantial pay cut to go there.

More likely it would depend, when his contract expires, on the ratings race.

If Kim's making serious inroads but can't seem to catch or beat KOST in the morning, CBS might believe they need Kim and Mark together.

If Kim's blowing past KOST on her own, CBS won't think that.

And if Kim can't get any traction against KOST, CBS might be very interested in Mark, but Mark would need to consider whether he'd be walking away from a winner for something less. After seeing his friend and former partner on the beach for as long as she was, I'm sure he'd think twice about making a leap just for old times' sake.

Only Mark Wallengren knows for sure what he wants, and what would Kim want? Would she welcome Mark with open arms? It's quite well known to readers of Don Barrett's LA Radio People that they had their disagreements. Of course any team will have them over the years. But with salaries going down instead of up, would Mark walk away from a contract that many would kill for? We all know that CC hasn't been giving raises for several years now and CBS is not handing out big contracts much anymore either. It's doubtful he could make as much on the Miracle Mile. I'm wondering how happy he is in his present situation? There are other forces at play at CC Burbank and it's known somewhat that a certain programming executive has made some rather unpopular changes. This could affect Mark's willingness to change as well. And what does Jhani Kaye want to do? Would he want Mark back? Time will tell, but I think Mark might entertain a crosstown move if given the right circumstances.

Though a no-brainer for Kaye & Co., still a very shrewd move.

Amidon has a long, successful heritage in L.A. and adding her will only contribute to The Wave's rapid ascent!

With or without Mark, wouldn't be surprised at all to see The Wave overtake KOST...in the not-so-distant future!

There are those that would dispute your predictions. If I could tell you what I know about the situation, you might feel differently.

Nothing is set in stone. The future is just that, not-so-distant or otherwise. It could go either way.

Someone has been adding some bizarre songs onto the KOST playlist over the past several months; everything from 'Play That Funky Music' to 'American Pie' (why is an alleged AC station playing a classic rock staple?) and numerous others.

Do they really expect to snag listeners from either KRTH or JACK-FM?

I'm also very happy for Kim; having read recently that KBIG is looking to hire a live personality to replace Hollywood Hamilton, would it make sense for them to rehire Charlie Tuna for that timeslot?

What rapid ascent are you referring to?

No doubt KOST would sound very different if it wasn't being manipulated by what Clear Channel wants them to play. This started not long after Clear Channel got KOST from Cox. The station has lost a lot of it's own "LA" identity. Very white bread sounding. But when you consider that the programmer over the programmer who is over the PD is a rock oriented guy from Pennsylvania it makes sense that a lot of the ethnic and LA regional songs have disappeared. CC has made some bone headed moves lately with this iconic LA brand. It's clear to me that they don't get it. I really feel bad for the staff, because with the changes across town it's obvious that there is a storm coming and if CC is not prepared for it they could get caught out in the rain.

I've seen it so many times before. Take a great radio station, sell/trade it it to another company as Cox did and watch it be deconstructed until there's nothing left of it's heart and soul... They clearly underestimated the importance of certain air talent to the station's core audience, and now they've done it with the imaging and music. What's next for KOST is anyone's guess. At least they still have original talent in place to try and keep some continuity.

With regard to the music, my guess is that some of these oldies are there to combat KRTH in some way, but they sound out of place.

Tuna is a great jock, but really too long in the tooth for KBIG in their present form. He is really in his element at KRTH. Problem with KRTH is that they have nothing full-time for him.
