Jetfli --- I understand the Quarterly reports. I had this feeling that the info you heard about was more of an in-house memo
style report that got released to eyes beyond the offices on Second Avenue. I see the QTLY performance level listings as up and
down of the markets. My concern really is that WKDF has spent years trying to find itself to average avail. Turnover, failed image changes,
less than happy campers in-house and very little help from management above local's has cost the stations $100,000's if not
a million or more in potential lost revenues. I don't listen to it, or any other Country station and I will be the last to suggest it
go back to Rock (but the rumors always prevail) but for the life of me, I just don't get the extreme levels of complacency
that occur in mass corporation's re-defined versions of "great" radio. The competition is so narrow now compared to single and duo
ownership. I just think a little more focus and attention could have made the road a lot smoother for Citadel here. They've had
to spend to much and work to hard to get where they are to be considered a shining star of the company. I, like you, enjoy
a good spirited competition. It pains me to see them not believe they can be #1 and do whatever it takes. Harsh on them?
I am. I know they have the resources to be #1 --- but do they have the drive, the fire and determination? I think not.
I do have to tell you I have enjoyed being considered the underdog only to dominate in one form or another by having a better
product, marketing and having a heck of a lot of fun. I think the big corps are not better than "the little guys." They can buy
the bigger sticks and that certainly helps. But look at SCC's good run that has kept a company with only 13 stations nationwide
on top here with no one willing to do what it takes to go after them. That may change (a little - based on signal) with the
latest Venus/Buzz developments. We will see. CC probably forgets about 13 stations they own a year.
The real question on "dummies" in corporate radio is not what they have amassed. It's what they could have amassed with a better
approach to building stations instead of auto-piloting and cost cutting. But, certainly they are to be commended for some incredible
feats in ownership that any of us wish we could be a part of!
