KING 5 Media Group partners with Seafair for 2020 broadcast specials

A couple of interesting specials being put together by KING. One is the 1990 and 2001 Fireworks Shows hosted by Margaret Larson and the other is a look by on hydro races with footage from the 1980s. That second one should be fun. Seeing the Squire Shop, Pay N Pak and Atlas Van Lines along with the Miss Bud, will bring back a lot of memories.

I have the entire 1988 Seafair Hydroplane cup on VHS plus the Blue Angels, all from KIRO. A different era. Hard to believe it's been a few years now since KIRO stopped showing the hydroplanes on TV. That was a family tradition, my parents all rooting on Bernie Little (may he continue to rest in peace) and the Miss Budweiser. And Steve Raible was there every year, covering the races with Chip Hanauer.

Except for You Tube, there is a generation that has no clue how big the hydro's were back in the 80s (even further back that two of Seattle's TV stations were covering the races). I probably was clued to my TV as high school junior living in Marysville back in 1988. Could never bring myself to root for the Miss Bud, always rooting for the underdog.
