Kingston radio station WKNY being sold to local group

Article in the Kingston Freeman today:
KINGSTON, N.Y. >> An investment group called Radio Kingston is buying WKNY-AM 1490 from Townsquare Media and launching a noncommercial platform “dedicated solely to a vibrant, just and healthy Kingston,” the group said in a press release Wednesday.

Jimmy Buff, who recently stepped down as program director and an on-air host at WDST-FM 100.1 in Woodstock, will serve as executive director of Radio Kingston and host a show on WKNY beginning later this year.

In addition Radio Kingston has applied for a translator on 107.9 , during the recent window. The application will likely land in an MX auction because 950 WHVW , Hyde Park has applied for the same frequency. From what the above mentioned article says radio Kingston has much deeper pockets than WHVW's owner Joseph Ferrao does. That station operates on a thin shoe string budget.
