KIRO radio Seattle Adds ''Candy, Mike & Todd Show'' to Afternoons

https://news.****************/cgi-bin/rol.exe/headline_id=c40407

. Bonneville's News/Talk KIRO Seattle adds a new weekday afternoon program to its lineup. "The Candy, Mike and Todd Show," hosted by Candy Harper (pictured), Mike Lewis and Todd Herman, will debut on Monday, January 14 from 3-7pm. Harper most recently served as the station's afternoon producer, while Lewis has worked at KIRO as a reporter and fill-in host since 2016. Herman has been the afternoon host on sister KTTH-AM since 2015 and a fill-in host on KIRO.

"This is an exciting moment in the continuing evolution of KIRO Radio," said VP/Market Manager Dave Pridemore. "We feel that Candy, Mike and Todd will bring a variety of fun, entertaining and diverse perspectives that best represent the communities that KIRO Radio serves."

Show starts January 14th.

I thought Ron & Don were good. But life moves on. Todd Herman has filled in for Rush on numerous occasions. So we know where he is politically...and in Seattle???

I was thinking not that long ago about how long Ron and Don have been in the market.

It was highly controversial on this board - or about five previous iterations of this board - when they were given the PM drive slot, replacing the well regarding KIRO Afternoon News.

I thought - at the time - give them 9 months and they'll be gone and news will be back. All of the other lineup changes in that time period failed; but Ron and Don persisted.

I never really listened to them - though I do remember them somewhere pre-The Buzz; late nights on KJR AM when I was a kid?

Yes, his introductory comment seems to indicate which direction that show will be going: "One of my goals in life is to be a force for bringing people together and to lend a genuine, conservative point of view to major media."

In other words: A new local Rush and Sean competitor.

In other words: Another reinvention of the wheel.

Anyone in radio or television long enough has witnessed firsthand how even short goodbyes never happen.

One of the first stations I worked at professionally in the late 70's had a sign posted in the control room that said: "Radio is a long plastic hallway where pimps and thieves run free and weak men die like dogs." I was 16 years old at the time and thought the saying was amusing. Little did I know.. That said; I have never regretted being in this business.

What stands out in the reaction to their cancellation ... on facebook, in the Seattle Times comment section, etc is that live and local talk radio that's done well can still make powerful connections with the listeners.

Punchline

Ya missed the punchline.

Radio is a long plastic hallway where pimps and thieves run free and weak men die like dogs. There is also a negative side.

Great line either way...!

Maybe the new management at KIRO-FM did not feel the show was "done well" anymore.

The feel of the show changed after Ron got divorced a couple of years ago. Whether that was the reason or not, nothing lasts forever in a business where change is scary.
