Kiss 95.3 Portsmouth NH area?

Re: Kiss 95.3 Portsmouth NH area now stunting?

Around 3pm today WUBB started playing TV theme songs with liners saying they're building a new radio station and it will be here Monday morning at 6am.

Be glad that someone seems to be thinking outside of the box and looking into a new format that's not classic rock based and/or given the name of an old man (Frank) or of a single-syllable animal (Hawk, Wolf, Cat, Bear, Dog, Skunk, etc.). ;)

Oh yeah. Calling a station "Kiss" is really thinking outside the box.

The page www.kiss953.com now loads for a moment as KISS 95.3 - Seacoast's #1 Hit Music Station, then loads the sports talk tease page. If you hit back it loads the KISS 95.3 page blank with borders that look a lot like KISS 108's. Hmmmm...

Manchester ratings/Fall 2007

Just to give you guys something else to talk about....

..it's not the Seacoast, but the Fall 2007 ratings are up on R&R for the Manchester market.

WZID way ahead of anyone else with 3 times the rating of the next station (WGIR).

Yes...the OM is Jeff Pierce. And yes, I'm sure the format change was due to the butt-whooping that they were taking from WOKQ. They consistently dominate thier market. (I don't rememeber the last time they had a bad book)

Did anybody hear if any of the KISS jocks (I know Matty is in best ofs) made any mention of Portsmouth or anything?
Just curious. I didn't hear any in the time I spent listening.

No it isn't. Now everybody who's moved out of Boston to go live in New Hampshire in the past 10 years can hear a major market hit station on a clear signal. That's a great programming decision.

OK, I need a refresher. What was 95.3 before the switch?

Oh, and for the quote of "Kiss" being a refreshing change of pace... "Kiss" was essentially the branding name that got the ball rolling for all the Franks and Phils and Jackasses.

Hmm... a station named Jackass... kinda catchy ain't it? lol :D ;)

And before Shark, 102.1 was Seacoast 102 which was my favorite station back around 95-97ish while I was living there on the Seacoast. Then they became The Stage and I switched to WERZ.

I don't remember Seacoast 102 - or "The Stage" When'd that happen? What was the format?

I went to UNH in 1995 and use to listen to 105.3/102.1 The Arrow when I wanted classic rock.

Off topic alittle bit, but what was WQSO 96.7 before it was Olides 96.7 (now The Wave)? It was an alternative station right?

The Stage was kind of a "beautiful music" type of thing I THINK...or showtunes...or some ungodly format like that. :-\

Seacoast 102, in my opintion, was a pop/American Top 40/Mix 98.5-type/WSRS-type/"hits of today"-type of station....if that makes any sense ;D Actually, it was sort of alot like WERZ was at that time as well. Seacoast 102 also had their summer beach patrol (in a VW bug) which was manned by one of their lovely college summer interns although I dont recall her name. When Seacoast 102 went away, I'm reasonably sure WERZ picked up the beach patrol reports the following year.

I lived in Portsmouth from 95-98 and Seacoast 102 had disappeared well before I left so I'm guessing Seacoast 102 disappeared around 97 or so and became The Stage. But now that you mention Arrow, I kind of sort of remember something called that too. But it's all very foggy now.

I remember a Jeff and Sara morning show on Seacoast 102 (although the morning show changed personalities quite often in just a couple of years on Seacoast 102). I think Sara eventually ended at the morning show after working overnights, middays, and evenings at the station.

Ahhh memories... ;D

Ok....correcting my own post from above......

Jeff and Sara were on WERZ, not Seacoast 102 ::) And it was on WERZ that the morning personalities seemed to change quite often over a couple of years.

I googled "Seacoast 102" which brought me to this little nugget via our buddy Scott Fybush's NERW:

"The holiday spirit is in full swing on the New Hampshire seacoast, as WSTG (102.1 Hampton NH) returns to an all-holiday music format for the second year in a row. "The Stage" used holiday music for all of last December as a transition from its old "Seacoast 102" AC format to the current mix of AC and standards. This year's run of holiday music started December 1 and will last through Christmas."

Which means Seacoast 102 basically went all Christmas in late 1995 and then became The Stage in early 1996. Happened earlier than I thought.

And I "googled" Seacoast 102 on Wikipedia and found this:

"Josh Judge is a meteorologist at WMUR-TV in Manchester, NH.

Josh joined the station as a part time employee in April of 2001, while he also worked on-air at WHDH-TV in Boston, and WGME-TV in Portland, Maine. Josh then became full-time at WMUR in 2003. He received the CBM seal(Certified Broadcast Meteorologist seal from the AMS) in 2006, and was among the first few in New England to get it.

Josh's got into broadcasting when he was 12 years old and by the time he was in his senior year of high school, he already had his own radio show. While in college, he worked in Boston radio as a DJ and a helicopter traffic reporter. He then spent eight years hosting a radio morning show New Hampshire's, on Seacoast 102 WZEA (where he won the New Hampshire Association of Broadcasters' "Air Personality of the Year" award in 1993) and later on ARROW 105.3 FM. After that, Josh returned to college to learn about weather forecasting and meteorology."

I don't recall this guy at all so he had to be before my time in NH.
