KISS ahead of KC101 in New Haven

I honestly don't think that the average target listener (my wife for example) even notices the changes and cuts at KISS. She still thinks that they sound good and play the best music. The ratings seem to support this....

Sounds like the sort of listener who posts to the XM and Sirius fan boards that they ought to eliminate all the disc jockeys and just play music -- turning satellite radio into a lazy person's iPod on shuffle play. You think this sort of thinking will become more prevalent as the iPod generation listens to FM? "Become more like my iPod or I won't listen!"?

What do you think would happen if every FM music station in the Hartford and New Haven markets went completely jockless? Would listenership in the advertiser-desirable demos decline even a little bit, providing that the formats and playlists stayed the same? Would advertisers desert if there was nobody in the studio to do a "live read"?

the damage being caused to kiss will take some time to show up in the arbs. kiss is a heritage station that was very healthy a year ago. ratings erosion usually takes longer in those cases. also, 12+ numbers don't tell the true tale. kiss is behind kc101 in the demos. teenage boys put them over the top in the fall book...no kidding.

Oh, they certainly do now. Maybe a little less than Kiss, but not by much.
I'm suprised that KC 101 isnt totally V/T. Look what's been done to WELI.

Isnt there any GOOD stations left in that market??

Rap is OK,R&B is ok..... HIP HOP IS TRASH!!!! (80s hip hop was OK) -- Its this NEW hip hop that came out near 2000 that totally sucks....

I think that is more of a national trend. Take a look at pop/top 40 radio in the UK, for example. Both the BBC and commercial CHR stations play so much more variety. The pop format is much less centered on R&B/Hip-hop.

Hip Hop Rule's ! The New Rock Music !

yes - this thread has officially been hijacked. the new haven market is never consistent when it comes to ratings. it is an embedded market with very small sampling and high weighting... that's why the numbers fluctuate so wildly from spring to fall. kc101 doesn't play a lot of hip-hop. just the stuff that's top 10 or top 20. kiss does the same thing, except i think they may play more r&B and dance, and kc101 feels a little bit more rock.

I gotta say being a CHRgeek I listen to BOTH stations....
Why a station like KISS 95.7 has anybodylistening is a mystery to me!
From themorning with the chain smoking Throatney in the (wheeeeeze) morning to a Program Director who voice tracks mid-days using the name Justin Saine (btw/ check out his page on the kiss site..this tool strokes his own ego as justin ...soooo sad)
Followed by a Munchie and a Skillet....How very 1980's of them..
No content. No entertainment. NO CLASS....
Go ahead and discuss...It ain't the amount of hip-hop that separates them....It's the style delivery presentation and class that does. We all know that Arbitron is not an exact science...small samples andheavily weighted books = silly 12 plus numbers that really don't matter that much anyway.
GOD I MISS STEVE COATS,JO JO , and RICK VAUGHN!!!

Justin Sane is Stan "the man" Priest? Aren't they fighting with eachother on the air? Oh boy - I don't even know how to react to that. BTW - I did check out his web page. How does a PD even have enough time to write that crap?

Yes, it is Stan. Not me - the first "Justin Sane".
