I usually flip over and listen to KISS-FM here in the Dyersburg, TN area, but the past several days, their signal is completely wiped out by 101.7 which is calling itself WTRO 1450. Apparently WTRO is a terrible oldies station simulcasting on 101.7, a low-power FM. But again, they are completely knocking out the 101.9 signal from KISS. Kinda sucks.

KIYS 101.9 Signal Knocked Out In Dyersburg

I'm nowhere near Dyersburg, but you know what's really interesting about this? If they're simulcasting WTRO without authorization (like an STA) they're in violation of the rules which prohibit rebroadcasting an AM station on an FM translator. (The proposal that would allow stations to do that hasn't been approved by the FCC... yet.) Meanwhile, according to the most recent for 101.7 translator, they were to rebroadcast the signal of WASL 100.1, which apparently already has a translator on 102.1. That makes five signals, all owned by "Dr Pepper/Pepsi Cola Btl. Co. Inc. of Dyersburg, Tn" and all licensed to Dyersburg. So why do they really need the translators?
You're right, of course, about STA's not always being reported on the FCC website. But I've found them mentioned in other places besides the station's application list.
BTW, it was late when I was posting and I now see that they just have the one translator, which got approval to move from 102.1 to 101.7 recently. The technical narrative in the application describes it as a "fill-in" translator for WASL (common ownership, service area within service area of primary station). With that in mind, I'd certainly hope they've got an STA that covers simulcasting WTRO on the translator.

I hear they have the go-ahead from the FCC for it. Not all AM's have the authorization, but I think that was passed Thursday for WTRO-AM. As far as the listening to that hip hop stuff, try moving closer to Arkansas, or just moving to Arkansas. I'm sure it's not a real major issue that you can't hear a Blytheville station, but then again, you can't make everyone happy!
You're right!! They do have the go-ahead....besides WTRO is within legal boundaries. WTRO has been broadcasting in this area for over 50 years and serves this area proudly. I hardly think another station in a another state deserves priority in our hometown. As far as the shot regarding the music.....you can change the channel if you don't like what you hear unless of course you enjoy having something to gripe about.
