KJKK Dallas Celebrates 18 Years as Jack-FM with a Flash Back July 4th Weekend

100.3 KJKK is running announcements that on July Fourth Weekend, it will air 84 of hours of its original playlist, when it signed on the air. It will begin Friday evening and wrap up on Monday evening. It won't be an exact replay. After all, current commercials will air. But the songs will play in the same order that were first heard when Jack-FM began in Dallas.

As I listen to Jack, I'm amazed at how much it sound like it always has. It's a mix of Classic Rock of the 70s, 80s and 90s, the MTV modern rock hits of its video era which began in 1981 and a few oh-wow songs bordering sometimes on novelty records: Girls Just Wanna Have Fun, Can't Touch This, Low Rider. Along with the sarcastic and ironic quips that Jack is known for.

I'm looking forward to the original Jack-FM weekend to see if my memory is correct. Jack-FM stays solidly in the 25-54 ratings, and has changed little since its debut. Maybe it plays a song or two each hour that wasn't around in 2004, maybe Adele, Train or Ed Sheeran. But mostly I think it won't sound much different.
