Jenny Q talks about the pain in Connecticut due to the mass causality event, plays IMAGINE by John Lennon, and says something to the effect of 'John Lennon knew the pain of this earth all too well'. Talks clear up to the lyrics (lyrics begin) "Imagine there's no heaven..."

Sometimes something is in such poor taste you just have to call it out. It's a spade. This is a spade.

I think it's really too soon to be doing this kind of thing. A lot of people are still trying to deal with the aftermath of this tragedy and the last thing you would want to do is upset someone by playing a song where the lyrics can not relate to the event or a song that was used as a tribute in a previous tragedy (ex "I Will Remember You" by Sarah McLachlin as it was used in a number of Columbine High tributes).

FWIW: Back in 1995, when the Oklahoma City bombing took place, Brian Wilson who was at KLIF at the time, produced a tribute that was played a week afterwards. According to his website http://www.brianwilsononline.com/promos1.htm , the News Director had wanted to used Gloria Estefan's 1991 song "Coming Out Of The Dark", but Brian objected and seeked out another song that was suitable. The one he found was Foreigner's "I Want To Know What Love Is". The tribute eventually won him a RAP and a Dallas Press Club "Katy". Unfortunately, the link to the file on his site has gone bad, but I heard it years ago and was moved to tears as it was beautifully done.

While talking about current events is a part of the flavor at KLUV, this mass causality event just does not fit, regardless of song choice because it's just not the same as losing Josh Hamilton. Earlier in the week someone at KLUV said they were playing "Another One Bites the Dust" in anticipation of the loss of Hamilton from the Rangers.

Both events, both current, not the same magnitude on the very face of it.
 
Inappropriate - an atheist anthem played for many victims and families who were and are Christian believers. I would be very offended if I were a member of the victim's family.
 
While faith was NOT my true focal point, didn't want to get into atheist vs believer views, it is certainly concerning, especially in light of pics on the internet from CT that say actually and literally say "Pray for the victims" etc.

I can't imagine the internal neural cognitive connection between John Lennon and those young victims. Certainly Lennon's death was tragic, but not nearly as much as the 20 innocents and 6 adults that were lost on Friday.

Just don't see the logic behind equating Lennon's loss with the losses in CT.

Who still mourns John 32 years later??
 
Okay, now you've gone and done it!

The only response acceptable would be an on-air acknowledgement and on-air apology to acknowledged that CBS Corporate recognizes the inappropriateness and insensitivity of this comment.

Apology must come from the Regional VP of CBS Radio. That is the only acceptable response here. Christian or not, CBS Radio must be held to account for "Corporate Social Responsibility". Let's see some CSR, CBS.

And wait, while were at it, there was another fall ball at KLUV when during a bonafide election last fall a KLUV personality (I believe the same one) put some candidates on the air and let them talk about the campaigns for up to 8 minutes while broadcasting live at some event where some but not all candidates were represented. This is a 47 CFR Part 73 Issue.

So let's talk equal time rules, not a faith issue but rather a real compliance issue. Can we get even a token amount of CSR from CBS.

I doubt it.
 
In lieu of any responsible act by CBS Corporate, I will accept an apology from JACK... Jack-FM. Just put it in between songs where all Jack's other clutter is located; no one will hear it!

There should be no surprise here. This is what you get with two generations of djs reading liner cards. Today's dj is not allowed to say very much and if they were allowed the freedom to communicate, they'd be clueless how to do it. This is a classic example of somebody trying to communicate a thought and being unable to do it correctly because they never had any experience refining their ability to communicate effectively without reading something from a liner card.
 
Topics like this are best avoided. I didn't say a word about it last weekend. Even after just one day, I'm sure people were burned out on it and they were undoubtedly coming to radio for an escape. There's no reason to bring it up.
