KMVN ratings:A sign of things to come?

It's still early, but so far the ratings on KMVN/Los Angeles are horrific, worse than anyone would have predicted including those who were upset with the format change from Country to Rhythmic AC

My question is do you think all of these stations jumping on the Rhythmic AC bandwagon will regret it? . Will this not even be a "fad format", but a complete dud? Or will the format boom with MOVIN"/LA being the lone exception?
 
Hang on a sec. Wait for the NEXT book to get a better handle on Movin, and keep in mind that L.A. has TWO Rhythmic ACs - Movin and Big (which has been a Rhythmic Leaning A/C long before Movin).

It seems to be working very well in Seattle.

Keep in mind the market demographics are different. It will be interesting how the format does in Hispanic markets (like L.A. and S.F.) versus a very white market like Seattle...

I know it's too early to judge. Yet I don't think the first two months can be ignored or discounted. JACK/L.A was already doing good this early after they launched. The old Jammin' oldies stations also had strong numbers right out of the gate.

The day KZLA switched to MOVIN" the first thing that came to my mind was that KBIG (and to a lesser extent KHHT) already covers this teritory. I thought it was a risky format selection based on how saturated the music was. Same thing with San Francisco, it seemed CBS was in such a hurry to flip to this trendy format that they ignored the fact that the hole wasn't very big for it.

I was thinking about that do. My hunch is that Rhythmic AC will the do best in the least ethnic markets such as Seattle. In those markets the songs MOVIN" plays might have "Oh Wow!" appeal. In markets like LA and SF those same songs might be considerded played out or too vanilla.
 
Rick Dees has done nothing but brag about KMVN being the "Fastest Growing Radio Station in the nation" and was quoting some pretty big numbers this week.......
