KNUV sale off as Nova M files for bankruptcy

I'm guesssing the moderator will allow a direct copy on this, since it's R-I's own Tom Taylor:

"Nova M Radio is kaput – and so is its $2.25 million deal to buy Phoenix AM KNUV (1190).
The deal was struck last October when Randi Rhodes was firmly in the talent stable at the Drobnys’ progressive talk syndicator. That was also when Nova M had a solid-looking LMA for KNUV and when dollars were coming in the door from a syndication effort behind Rhodes and Mike Malloy that had a total of about 40 stations. Now – Sheldon Drobny is in the hospital. Randi Rhodes has split in an apparent contract dispute. And the LMA-to-buy is ending – soon. Anita and Sheldon Drobny were about to sign the final asset purchase agreement for the purchase of KNUV, Tolleson, Arizona from New Radio Venture. But now the station (5-kw days, 250 watts at night) is back on the market. Broker Jody McCoy of Media Services Group has the listing. He’s also selling KNUV’s sibling in Denver, KNRV, Englewood (1150)."

The end of liberal talk in Phoenix? The end of liberal talk in America? What's next for 1190? Polka? Chinese gongs? Regional Mexican Comedy? Real Estate Foreclosure Listings? A thousand cycle tone?

Dancin' Danny Babich has been looking for a radio home ever since the Giant 580
flipped to country last Labor Day. Unfortunately, even during the daytime hours,
the big 1190 won't be heard "all over Arizona."

Chinese gongs?

"We need more Calgon!"

Regional Mexican Comedy?

"Aqui tenemos muchos buenos trailers..." (From an old bilingual TV spot for
a mobile home dealer in Tucson--you would have had to have been there.)

Real Estate Foreclosure Listings?

More radio exposure for Wonderful Russ. He'll foreclose your home in only 44 days!

A thousand cycle tone?

All-EBS test, all the time. Great for tone geeks!

"This has been a test of the Emergency Broadcast System." (Insert legal ID here.*)

*: KAZG 1440 is exempt from ID requirement. ;D

So does this mean KNUV will be going dark again and Mayor Philiberto cries in his Shaq sneakers that the Valley has lost another radio voice due to the bad economy? How can Dr Mike continue to pay the rent for 11~Ninety with his line-up of three lib-talkers, and none of them are Randi Rhodes and Ed Shultz? No cash flow = no rent money. Nurse Jeff reminds me the one good thing about this is no one will be paying anywhere near $2.5m for this station!

How long till we get the stereotypical "conservatives are evil big business booogy monsters" post blaming this on everyone but the bad management of Nova M?

What's the story here? Will Dr. Mike be leasing or buying 1190? 2.25 million is A LOT for a signal with only 250W at night, but they do cover half the state with their directional array of 5kW during the day...

Dr. Mike should pack his stethoscope and microphones and go to a more ... LIBERAL ... place, like Boulder or Santa Fe, NM. Phoenix is WAAAYYY too conservative for Malloy dropping 4 and 5 letter words defacing members of certain religions. In fact, I don't know of ANY place in the entire Southwest where such language would be tolerated...you have to go all the way to Santa Cruz or up to Boulder...

I am trying to figure out how 1190 is still on the air with Nova M in BK. They had the LMA with New Radio Venture. Now Dr.Mike is up there running things with a LMA??? I doubt it. Why would NRV enter into an LMA with another group who's ability to buy the station is in Question? Could 1190 be a Pirate Signal right now?? Yes as someone mentioned it's a Soap Opera, "As The Radio Dial Turns"

But the hate mongering and/or racist filth peddled by Hannity, Rush, Savage, etc.… is suitable?
