KOHD discontinues simulcasts of KEZI’s newscasts

Call this one a big shtick in the fork as the last call has been drawn for KOHD and local news on the station.

As of recently, KOHD 51 no longer airs simulcasts of KEZI 9’s newscasts. This was done since 2011, when KOHD’s news department was shut down and workers were laid off. Before the discontinuation of the simulcasts from KEZI 9 on KOHD 51, the station was simulcasting on weekdays, KEZI 9 News This Morning at 6:00 a.m., KEZI 9 News at 5:00 and KEZI 9 News at 11:00. On weekends, it was the news at 5:00 and 11:00 p.m., plus Saturdays had more simulcasts with news at 6:00 and 6:30 p.m. As of now, all simulcasts has since been replaced by syndicated programming.

The only locally produced programs that currently exist on KOHD 51 are Ask Dr. Nandi, weekdays at 11:00 a.m. (hour-long) and myWindow, weeknights at 6:00 p.m. (half-hour).

Very very sad for a station built from the ground up for high-definition. No wonder EVERYONE is watching KTVZ for news here.

Yakima is sort of like this as well - They've already killed off Yakima anchors/staff at KNDO and KAPP by moving everything to Kennewick/Richland over 70 miles away, and closing down both studios on 24th Ave. KAPP is all syndicated programming on weekends with no news at all. KIMA is the last floater left, with local news at 5 and 6, plus what looks like a taped recap of Yakima news at 11 from the KEPR studio (with Annie Andrews). Everything else is simulcast on KEPR Tri Cities. For a city of almost 100,000, only 5 hours of local Yakima news all week long is unacceptable.
