KQSS Listeners Rejoice, K270BZ 101.9 FM Is Gone From Valley Airwaves

Much to the delight of KQSS-FM Miami, AZ and the Westwind Glendale 9 drive-in, 98.3 KKFR-FM has shut down the 101.9 translator, K270BZ, and moved to a new translator at 96.1 FM. KQSS-FM Miami / Globe had complained to the FCC about interference to it's listening audience from the 101.9 FM Power 98.3 translator (a translator I always thought was way too powerful and even interfered with my reception of 102.1 KAHM-FM Prescott in the West Valley due to bleed over from K270BZ). They even had a website asking for reports of interference. http://www.kqss.net/interference.html

What's funny is that the new 96.1 South Mountain translator, K241BQ, for Power 98.3 on 96.1 FM interferes with ANOTHER preexisting translator on 96.1 FM, K242CS, rebroadcasting 1280 KXEG-AM The Trumpet. So we now have so many translators in Phoenix that they are interfering with each other on the SAME frequency. What a mess. At least KQSS-FM listeners and those wanting to sneak some first run movie audio from the Glendale 9 Drive-in are happy!

Spot on observation, Jorge de ASU!

96~One is now a bi-polar frequency, alternating between the two feed stations. YIKES! And yes, the translator on 101~Nine was suspiciously on steroids. While KQSS and the Glendale 9 listeners will be happy, Power 98~Three listeners won't.

Driving down to the valley, listening to KAHM FM 102.1 on Tuesday, the
signal was strong and clear quite a way into Scottsdale. The 101.9 translator
used to shred the KAHM signal anywhere East of Tatum.....

One's supposed to go west, the other to the east. On paper, that is. In reality, listeners in Central Phoenix get both interfering with each other. Thanks FCC for junking up the FM band, just as you allowed the AM band go to Hell.
