KQV and KDKA News on south side standoff at 8:27 am

So Far KQV wins, just the facts. I really think rob or rod milford has potential but. he is announcing that he was told the suspect has a bad attitude towards police. this is an ongoing situation. perhaps..god forbid the suspect is listening to the radio to learn what is going on. next mr. milford is discribing police proceedure to
supress a suspect. Please just report the facts. walt golden on kqv has just told us that police are in the building and having difficulty finding the suspect. I am looking at the roof of the iron and glass bank now looking for police. at least walt is preparing me to keep an eye out. mr milford is fanning the fires.. from the glow of a campfire(the tinkle of the broken glass hitting the sidewalk). this is not the middle east. now I can hear what may be shots and here comes a state police helicopters searching rooftops(thanks again walt).
so now I know what is going on.

sorry... what I heard was not gunfire.. just local construction people..let's hope for a peaceful conclusion of this event.

KQV deserves a lot of credit for soldering on with a local news format, despite a shrinking market and rising costs.
I doubt it would last if the current ownership were to move on. Increasingly they are the only place to turn to
get any idea what is happening if you are out and about, at least if it is not on a weekend.

"all news all the time" has been Bob Dickey Sr's mission since the day he got there in the mid 70's......when the old TAFT broadcasting decided to spin off the station around 1982 (?) he was fortunate to find a partner in Richard Mellon Scaife.who pretty well stays out of it....

when/if "MR DICKEY" decides to hang it up...he has some trusted lieutenants who could keep KQV going...and there are even past KQV folks who , i know, would be willing to step in........i think KQV will keep going for awhile.....

Dickey is getting up there in years and Scaife is battling in court right now to keep his hands on the larger part of his money. If his wife's claims that the Trib is not a legit business venture but merely a "hobby" then KQV dies almost instantly of cashflow collapse. I hope that there are people out there who still value legitimate journalism enough to put their money where their mouth is, but I can see this station coming apart financially very quickly under the wrong circumstances.

I tip my hat to the people over in Center City Tower. They are putting a good product on the air with what amounts to 1970s technology.

That works because they've all been there since the '70s and the formatics are exactly the same as they were then.
