KING 5 partner with Seattle Kraken to broadcast more than 70 games starting in 2024
KING 5 will carry more than 70 preseason, regular season and postseason games for free over the air.
How is this relevant to the main theme of the thread? This is about Seattle, not San Diego.Ok when will Tegna will be open to buy the Padres games for KFMB 8.2 if they sell their CW rights to Nexstar, same as the Rockies rights to KUSA/KTVD.
I meant if Tegna wants to bid more regional sports rights beyond the Kraken. How is this relevant to the main theme of the thread? This is about Seattle, not San Diego.
Stop hijacking threads with tangential topics.I meant if Tegna wants to bid more regional sports rights beyond the Kraken.
It says that in the linked article.I think KONG might carry almost all of the games because of KING's commitments with NBC.
And why are you assuming that?I meant if Tegna wants to bid more regional sports rights beyond the Kraken.
Unless it's not affilated with a major network it will, also I'm not suprised that the majority owner of Root Sports which is the Mariners didn't have enough time to bid and continue. BTW Root Sports also has the Portland Trail Blazers, Tegna and predecessors back then carried some Blazers games on KGW but now shuttered NBCSNW wasn't on satelitte much like NBCS Philly/Phily Plus does. The good news is until the Supersonics return, the Blazers (which covers Seattle since the 2008-09 season) won't conflict with a overflow feed to carry games at the same time. This seems to be happening all over the country. Sprots teams are abandoning the regional sports networks and going towards partnerships with local stations. Seems loke a good way to increase team interest and get more eyeballs on the games for the Kraken.
That sort of thing is happening with many cable providers in numerous markets. Having an RSN as part of popular programming tiers is driving subscriber costs up at a time when cord cutting is clobbering cable revenue. Non-sports fans complain about having to pay for RSNs they don’t want. So the video providers are moving those RSNs to higher cost tiers where only those who actually want the RSN are paying for it.but it was our "friends" at Comcast who decided to put Root on the premium tier. The Mariners were not happy about that move.
But Premium essentially means that Root Sports was charging Comcast too much!I agree with the exposure angle, Fordranger, but it was our "friends" at Comcast who decided to put Root on the premium tier. The Mariners were not happy about that move.
In regards to KTVB (NBC Boise), I don't think it matters because looking there using the NHL zip code lookup & typing in a Boise-area zip code, it's not in Kraken territory as they show Avalanche & Golden Knights games.Do think Tegna might buy another station in Idaho or Oregon because KGW or KTVB doesn't have a duopoly those markets (Idaho's Own 24/7 is not well distributed outside of OTA and Cable). I would be suprising if they gonna bump or drop CW programing on KSKN for Kraken games. Also will there be subchannels outside of Seattle? Will Tegna have to buy more stations to provide more reach in the Northwest region?
My bad so Tegna needs to add more outlets in both Oregon and Washington not just Portland & Spokane but also Eugene, Medford, Bend, & Yakima-Tri Cities. In regards to KTVB (NBC Boise), I don't think it matters because looking there using the NHL zip code lookup & typing in a Boise-area zip code, it's not in Kraken territory as they show Avalanche & Golden Knights games.
Why do you want TEGNA to buy more stations, for the sake of ice hockey? You are aware that TEGNA was recently (and may still be) a takeover target and isn't in any position to buy any stations?Do think Tegna might buy another station in Idaho or Oregon because KGW or KTVB doesn't have a duopoly those markets (Idaho's Own 24/7 is not well distributed outside of OTA and Cable).
