KRMG's Joe Kelly, Stop Whining, McCain Lost, Get Over It and Grow Up

I can't listen to the KRMG Morning News with Joe Kelly and if I were an advertiser I'd pull my money and go elsewhere. Twice within 10 minutes during the 8 o'clock hour, Joe Kelly had to make a dig at Obama over complete petty nonsense that has no relevance to anything in my life and I have a feeling Joe's just getting started.
Is this what I have to look forward to for the next 4 years Joe? Is the conversation on your program always going to come back to Barack Obama and what a horrible person he is? If I want to listen to partisan politics, I'll go to KFAQ.
I'm sorry John McCain lost, but get over it. He ran a bad campaign, and anyone with a half an ounce of sense could see this coming from a mile away, including John McCain's own staff.
I want news, traffic, weather, sports, and relevant talk in the morning, preferably local items of interest. Not a whining miserable belly-aching spoiled brat who didn't get their way. Stop sulking and grow up.
Am I the only one who misses John Erling? Like the song says, you don't know what you've got, till it's gone.

At least he's taking a position on something.

I can't stand the talk show hosts who just limp wrist it and don't take a side.

Be hot or cold...but lukewarm...yech...

He's not taking a position, he's bitching and whining for the sake of bitching or whining. Joe never comes out and says I think Obama is bad and I think John McCain is great.
Instead he just complains about Obama and carries water for KRMG's lineup of Boortz, Limbaugh, and Hannity as well as the Drudge Report. It's boring radio. I can't imagine the ratings for his program having improved since Erling left. In fact, I wouldn't be shocked if they were down.
Is Joe Kelly a talk show host or is he a line-up anchor? What is he? I don't even know if Joe knows.
My point is move on, the election is over, stop sulking.

Hey Glenn~

Man, I can't agree with you any less. It's about time KRMG got some balls at the local level and said to the left "FU."

Maybe Joe should say the same to you. After all, it's entertainment, just like this board! - or, is it "bored"??

:)

Go with God.

"FU"?......Go with God? Man, are you on crack? Joe Kelly will be judged by the ratings. If he's too much one way or the other he'll know it and adjust. Talk radio isn't just about entertainment. It's about reflecting the majority of your audience's opinions and positions on anything and everything. If you bat .500 you're doing better than most. If Joe is really sour grapes about the Obama win well then he need's to keep his mouth shut until the man has a chance to go to work. The right in Oklahoma wants Obama to fail. It's as simple as that and Joe is one of them. I hope Barack succeeds. I want our boys home. I want our economy to get well. I want national health insurance so my countrymen never have to lose everything they own when a child gets cancer and they wake up one morning over a million bucks in debt. That has happened to two families I personally know. Wall street I couldn't possibly care less about. The stock market is a crap shoot to begin with and anybody with any street smarts will tell you that. The lending industry needs transparency and accountability and yes that means regulation! Corruption rots from within. I want to see our corporations keep the jobs in the USA, not in India where they work for $5 dollars a month. I want to see the physically and mentally disabled receive more income as well as decent housing and the very best medical care. I'd like to see our military people be completely tax free. If you wear the uniform of our military and put your buckle to the dust for this nation, I believe that man or woman should never have to pay a dime of tax of any kind for as long as they live. Finally, I want to see my country stop acting like the Ottoman Empire and start acting like the country it was after WWII. We were a peace loving, enterprising nation on the grow and we can be again. Talk radio is, for the most part, just brain masturbation. Talk radio thrives because it panders to the ignorant and the tin foil hat types. I don't listen. It's like drugs and alcohol.....just say no. If you've got more money in your pocket at the end of the first term then shut your trap! If you sold more cars then shut your trap. If you kept your job and got a raise, then shut your trap. If one of your kids got sick and there happens to be a "national health insurance" that saved your home, your cars and the clothes on your back as well as saving your ass then shut your trap! And if nothing else happens in this country than just looking at one another as equal human beings with the same rights and priviledges without the attitude then SHUT YOUR TRAP!!!

Bob O,

I suspected you were a wise man all along. You just proved it beyond a shadow of a doubt.

Bob,

Don't be so HARD on mental masturbation.

It's mental stimulation with the person you love the most.

=)

As always, entertaining reading.

Bob O is exactly right.
The point of my original post was, belly-aching sour grapes pissy pants radio sucks. Is Joe Kelly a talk show host or a morning news anchor? Again, I'm not sure.
His bitter ramblings and interrupting his co-host to tell us about some irrelevant nugget of anti-Obama info makes him seem like he's a young Sean Hannity. However, he doesn't take phone calls or go on diatribes that are indicative of a true talk radio host (Hannity, Limbaugh, or KFAQ's Pat Campbell.)
All I know is the show sucks.

Mmm-m-m... brain masturbation! ;D

I don't know about the whining, I haven't heard it, but what I DO like are some of the new sweepers:

* "...keep your hand on your wallet, your gun by your bed, and your radio tuned to..."

* "First, OU loses to Texas. Then McCain loses to Obama. If we weren't Oklahomans, this might really get us down..."

* "...Hey, blue states... WHAT THE HECK WERE YOU THINKING?!? Proudly labeled the reddest state in America..."

ROTFL! These are REALLY great, and some of the most aggressive sweepers I've heard from KRMG in maybe 20 years... fantastic stuff! And it's dead-center of their audience and their market... why the heck not? Yet radio stations rarely show this level of bias and / or pride... in this case, it's a GOOD thing!

Hey, KRMG... those cojones look good on you! :D

Bob O, you are correct sir! Perhaps Billy James Hargis has been resurrected and is on this board. I remember him being on the radio years ago ranting about Communist conspiracies and how The Beatles were sent here to overthrow our way of life. A skit from Saturday Night Live couldn't have been any funnier.

Bob O ~

Couldn't have said it better myself. Talk radio today boils down to "them against us." The lowest common denominator has been found.

By the way, the Devil is the cause of it all. Oh, wait a minute...guess that falls right in line with...well, never mind...

Though I personally agree with most of what Mr. O'Shea said, I would also like to quote him from 7 months ago.

The Oklahoma radio blogs are held in pretty high esteem nationwide believe it or not. One reason why is the absence of politics. I don't care who your party affiliation is, just do me a favor and leave out the damned politics. I'm sure you're probably a pretty nice person and I'm not trying to be arrogant, but let's not sully our blogs with politics. We may as well be talking about raw sewage.

Bob O'Shea

As far as KRMG goes, The Big O again has it correct...the ratings will be the judge, however flawed they are. Talking to your audience is job #1. The election was less than a week ago and boths sides still have some rights... the winning side to gloat and the "non winning" side (to use a PC term) to have a poutfest. The "right" just need some time to lick their wounds just as the "left" did 4 and 8 years ago. Who can forget the "selected not elected" chant for the last 8 years. Which I read somewhere Ann Coulter is using now. ::) I guess the classics never go out of style, though somone should tell her that it only works when you don't win both popular and electoral votes.

The liners that Mr. Aire mentioned made me tune in this morning and the one liner I sampled was fairly upbeat and humorous. KRMG has to walk a very fine line of "poutfest" and helpful, constructive commentary. Mr Kelly may just need more time to get over the his heartbreak... or maybe "he protests too much." ;)

just my two cents and now that I have opened my mouth...allow me to become your lightning rod of hate... flame away.

Hey boys and girls, lest we forget; radio is about money and NOT IDEOLOGY!!!!!

If old tapes Billy James Hargis or selling prayer clothes work, then we'll do it. It has been awahile since I have listened to KRMG and so I am not familiar with Mr. Kelly. If I ran KRMG, I would be interested in maximizing profits. If he fits, great. If he doesn't, we'll do something else.

Money? You mean there's money in radio? All these years and I thought it was just for fun. How silly of me. ;)

O'Shea

P.S. If you haven't heard KRMG in a while, I can assure you that they are still the cream of the crop not just in talk radio but in radio in general. Scoot's right....it's the kind of place people dream of working for. Dick Loftin is one lucky duck as well as a great broadcaster. I hope Dick owns a station someday. I know a long line of guys & gals, myself included, who would love to work for an old school radio dawg like DL.

I will listen to the morning show. Politically, I am a progressive so it will be stricly business. I shall presume this guy "kelly" is morning drive.

Again, it's business. What I believe and what sells may be two different things. I learned this approach to business while working for an all religious station in OKC. It was an eye opener.
