KSFM 102.5 in Sacramento playing a dance song in rotation

Since someone brought KSFM up, did anyone notice that they were playing "She'd Rather Be With The DJ" by Hardnox, which apparently became their #1 requested song. A dance song #1 on a hip hop station which doesn't even really play dance in mixshows?!? And #1?!? To listen to the song go to http://www.myspace.com/hardnox and listen to the dance version of "She'd Rather Be With The DJ." That's the version they're playing.

Well, when it comes to playing Pop and Dance cuts, this is nothing new for KSFM. And it has always worked in their favor as a way to distinguish itself from KBMB and KDND. Plus KSFM seem to adventureous when it comes to adding a Rhythmic Pop or Dance hit.

Another reason for KSFM playing Hardnox is due to the act is from Sacramento, so there is another factor and KSFM does support local artists.

I beg to differ a little on this being nothing new for KSFM playing dance cuts. Having lived in Sac basically all my life, I can tell you throughout its history it has been much more reluctant than other CHR/Rhythmic stations to play dance mixed in with the rap/r&b tracks. I used to listen to stations like KWIN 97.7 (Stockton), Wild 94.9/107.7 (SF), and Hot 104.7 (Merced) through static over 102.5 to get my dance fix because KSFM very rarely played any dance in rotation. Besides the handful of Real McCoy, Lil Suzy, LaBouche, songs that they played in the past, there wasn't much else until they has that period where they played a bit of freestyle (such as Debbie Deb, Freestyle, Trinere, Connie, etc.) in rotation in the 90's, and after that they really only got one or two artists in rotation like Angelina and Jocelyn Enriquez. Since then it has been pretty dry, the only time I've heard them do anything else is when Power 105.5 came about, and then KSFM went from 100% pure rap/r&b to putting some dance songs (i.e. Modjo's "Lady") into MIXES, and playing the occasional Angelina or Connie as full songs. Also, KDND 107.9 did the same at that time as well (playing virtually no dance at all to playing a bunch of dance (often classic dance like Haddaway's "What Is Love"). But with Power 105.5's demise, soon 102.5 and 107.9 dropped dance music. This is the first time in what seems like forever that KSFM has played a dance song in rotation (I'm not counting some of the more upbeat/bass-y songs like some of Ciara's songs as dance).
I'll agree though that KSFM would be more likely than 103.5 to do something like this. There was one extremely interesting moment though last 4th of July on 103.5 during their mix weekend. Just out of nowhere they went from their normal hip hop mixing into about 45 minutes of non-stop mixing of freestyle. And I'm talking some pretty deep and obscure freestyle tracks mixed in there too, stuff that neither KSFM (nor many other stations than maybe KTU back in the day) has never touched. It was pretty amazing!

Actually, they're from Concord, CA (east of San Francisco).

Looking for the PD to be driving a new car soon...

This song was signed by Blackround/Universal. Personally, I'm not a fan and am curious as to what would be driving this kind of reaction from station listeners. The song is just ok, at best, to me and sounds really dated and simplistic. Color me confused.

Timing is everything as they say. A song doesn't have to give you that greatness factor to become successful, just look at Soulja Boy and Lil Wayne.
BTW, 98.5 KLUC in Vegas also started playing Hardnox.

Success in the music business is determined by how many records you sell. Let's see where this is in a couple of months. It should be interesting.

As did koht tuscon, kxbt austin, kzon pheonix and kwyl reno... It has been gaining spins rapidly on each station as well. It's a great song, maybe just something you haven't heard before... This track is hot!

Furthermore, at the time I posted my reply, the above mentioned stations still hadn't added it ::)
Would you like another one of these? ::) ::)
