KSFM More Like KDND. 103.5 The Bomb in the Tank.

103.5 The Bomb and KSFM 102.5 in Sacramento are nothing to get exited about a lot these days when you turn to their radio dial. KSFM plays more pop like their rivals KDND 107.9, but are loyal to their listeners. KBMB is trying to be like KSFM and play too much pop. They been having extreme low ratings for the last year because of Big Boy's show no one listens to in Sac. Also, bad mixshows(Fridays and Saturday night mixes ending at midnight-bunch of party poopers). On Saturday nights after midnight, they have a mixshow till 3am, but it's already pre-recorded. KBMB is biased, especially after banning Chris Brown songs and none of the others for their crime and recording songs that degrade women and contains illegal activities. To add on, 103.5 The Bomb wants to do whatever they want to do and not give what the listeners want. Their music director Short-E needs to be demoted, Pattie Moreno, program director, needs to go, Dj Mofo, mixshow coordinator, needs to be demoted, and Famous and most of the Bomb staff and street team needs to go. They treat listeners like trash. A good friend of mine used to be an intern at the radio station from 2007-2008 and told me all of this was going on. I started to notice that their music, Big Boy, Baka Boyz, and the mixshows were turning garbage last year and they don't care to change and go back to being a real hip-hop station they were in the earlier years ('98-2004). I noticed when KBMB have been at events, they talk down to their listeners when someone gives them respectable criticism of the station and try to help them out with suggestions. They are not professional and therefore, they are one, if not the worst hip-hop station on the West Coast and nationwide.

Pop music goes in cycles. Uptempo stuff is the flavor of the moment. This is how it was 20 years ago as well. Then, by the early 90's Hip-Hop/R&B started to become the dominate Pop music of the moment. The Hip-Hop of the last decade has been OVER SOLD for a LONG time. After another year or so of this I'm sure you'll see a more Hip-Hop/R&B type format back on the airwaves in Sac. The fact the KSFM sounds more like KDND right now is proof of this.

I agree. i remember when KSFM (as FM 102), used to play lots of Pop Music in the mid 80's like Bruce Springsteen, Huey Lewis and Aha.

If there is a new station in Sacramento that plays straight up hip-hop and R&B(real hip-hop and R&B), 103.5 would get worried, lose listeners, and likely be forced to change up and go back to hip-hop and R&B only.

102 played some good music back in the 90s as well. Now, the songs they're playing don't make any sense.

I wish they would do something.Maybe something like the early days and in the 80's type format.Do something a little different then all the rest.Get back to the 'music' that is the best, today and yesterday.

A lot of responses in regards to KSFM. They shold play more 80s and 90s music that made them popular. And then play some today's mainstream music. Does anyone have any ideas to fix 103.5 The Bomb?

As I posted before...the trend right now is for uptempo, POP music on CHR, Rhythmic or otherwise. Hip-Hop & R&B has been VERY OVER-COMMERCIALIZED for the last decade. Think back to the 90's. Biggie, Jay Z, Fugees, Dr. Dre, Snoop, etc. Hip-Hop had some edge to it and something that was artistically interesting and NEW to alot of listeners. Now, I'm not dissin' Akon, Kanye, etc but these type of artist are dishing out COMMERCIAL sounding Hip-Hop....it's what radio has gravitated to in the last 10 years. Eventually, when listeners get SICK of all the sugar-coated POP music, there's PLENTY of GOOD Hip-Hop just waiting to be heard from the Underground....but it goes in cycles and don't think were there yet.

Also, with the economy and the new PPM system I think you're going to see MOST companies play it SAFE with respects to fromat changes...at least until everyone understands the flaws in the new PPM data set. My 2 cents.

I see where you're coming from. It is true that this is happening. My observation is they are moving to this popish, fake hip-hop trend to please younger listeners, although half of that audience don't like it, and females. They are playing the same songs all day long just to get recognition from the artists for playing their music, get a paycheck, and ratings(although KBMB's ratings continue to plummet). KSFM has always been more Top 40, but they stay true to themselves and loyal to their listeners. Meanwhile, KBMB flip flops and turn away listeners. Someone tell me which station is more professional. Personally, I don't like 102, but I can give them some respect for their loyalty.

Personnally, I doubt KSFM will make any changes. Why mess with a winning game plan that has worked in their favor.

As for KBMB, if Entravision ever flips that station, it'll be en espanol. "Jose" or "El Gato" anyone?

How many espanol station are there going to be in Sacramento? I know KBMB is with Entravision, but come on. I know there is a big number of hispanics in Sacramento, but this city could use an urban contemporary station as KHYL 101.1 is the closest to being that kind of station, except they don't play hip-hop. But like I said before, if KBMB doesn't change their format and want to have higher ratings, Pattie Moreno, Big Boy and all syndicated shows, whack music, and almost everyone else at the station except Tosh and Tommie Goss are thrown out the window and not welcomed at the station.

Unfortunately, Sacramento has a very small black population compared to the Bay Area with KMEL, hence why it drifted away from its original Urban format prior to 2004. Also unlike KBMB, KMEL is a longtime heritage station that gradually moved to being a true Urban Contemporary from Rhythmic Crossover and (Rhythmic Top 40 before that) over a decade. The thing is the best you guys can hope for is that maybe Entravision gets a clue and model the station after maybe urban-leaning Rhythmics like WZMX in Hartford or WMBX in West Palm Beach (ironically both are owned by CBS).

Sacramento and the Bay Area have almost identical African-American population percentages.

Sacramento's black population is about 15%. When KBMB was more urban contemporary from the late 90s-2004, the black population was a lot smaller, around 10%. Yes, KMEL has been around longer and has the heritage. KBMB and Entravision has no clue what they are doing. KBMB was better when Diamond owned them.
