Personnally, I doubt KSFM will make any changes. Why mess with a winning game plan that has worked in their favor.

As for KBMB, if Entravision ever flips that station, it'll be en espanol. "Jose" or "El Gato" anyone?
How many espanol station are there going to be in Sacramento? I know KBMB is with Entravision, but come on. I know there is a big number of hispanics in Sacramento, but this city could use an urban contemporary station as KHYL 101.1 is the closest to being that kind of station, except they don't play hip-hop. But like I said before, if KBMB doesn't change their format and want to have higher ratings, Pattie Moreno, Big Boy and all syndicated shows, whack music, and almost everyone else at the station except Tosh and Tommie Goss are thrown out the window and not welcomed at the station.

Unfortunately, Sacramento has a very small black population compared to the Bay Area with KMEL, hence why it drifted away from its original Urban format prior to 2004. Also unlike KBMB, KMEL is a longtime heritage station that gradually moved to being a true Urban Contemporary from Rhythmic Crossover and (Rhythmic Top 40 before that) over a decade. The thing is the best you guys can hope for is that maybe Entravision gets a clue and model the station after maybe urban-leaning Rhythmics like WZMX in Hartford or WMBX in West Palm Beach (ironically both are owned by CBS).
Sacramento's black population is about 15%. When KBMB was more urban contemporary from the late 90s-2004, the black population was a lot smaller, around 10%. Yes, KMEL has been around longer and has the heritage. KBMB and Entravision has no clue what they are doing. KBMB was better when Diamond owned them.

Well, if that is the case, they should be Urban again.

They can do either do these things:
1. Exit from Entravision and sign with another company; then switch to an urban-leaning station.
2. Stay with Entravision. Don't have to be all urban, but play way more hip-hop and R&B as they did a couple of years ago under Entravision.
3. Change formats and we don't have to criticize them anymore. They can be Top-40 along with KSFM and KDND, but with low ratings.

That's got to be a first. Suggesting that a station leave it's parent company and and sign with another.

This is way too funny!

I'm sure the folks at Entravision would have something to say about that.

LOL "The Bomb runs away and goes to it's previous licensee... Diamond Radio headed by Paula Nelson"

Michael: "BTone" is obviously more of a fan than a radio insider and obviously doesn't understand the way the biz actually works...but his observation is still accurate in my oppinion. There is now a huge gap in in the Sac market for current-based urban/hip-hop/R&B format.

The closest we have to one even in Los Angeles is Power 106. Then there's KDAY, a hip hop oldies station. I think it may be the current product right now. Thoughts?

Actually, I wasn't talking about the radio business. I know the radio business. I have friends that work in radio, especially at KBMB. They have told me how bad it is at the station. I have been to places/events where The Bomb have been on location and seen the unprofessionalism myself. I listen to how they treat the listeners. I've tried to give them suggestions, but get brushed to the side. By me being a fan of real hip-hop, my suggestions were a joke to them because I didn't like Top-40, wasn't a teen, and I wasn't a female. Yeah, I may be a fan, but I am a radio insider. If I wasn't a radio insider, I would have never started this topic. If you have read my first post, you will see wehre I come from. The streets are talking too, and that is why I posted this topic. So, don't say that I don't know something if you never read the previous posts or go out into the communities and ask people. And, you probably don't even have people in radio, so why even comment and say something like that when I never said anything about the radio business until now? Yes, it's obvious: radio business is nothing but politics and payola. If you didn't know that, then step your game up. Now, top that!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

LOL.....Btone.....I was actually paying you a complement more than anything. Be glad you don't understand how the biz works....it would disgust you! Radio companies don't care about puting "cool" or "hip" formats on the air....they don't even care about formats that will be around in 2 or 5 years! They care about what they can sell......right NOW! It's a BIG part of what's wrong with the biz and why it's losing to digital/stream-based media via the internet.

Your statement that the station should "sign" with another company....like they were a free agent is what I was refering to in your previous post. A company OWNS them. They make NO decisions without the COMPANY! Simple as that. Be GLAD your a FAN and that you LOVE music. If radio doesn't listen to you and others like you.....other media WILL...so embrace THAT! If radio conitnues to ONLY look at the bottom line all the time and pays no attention to the fans, new media trends, and fails to think "outside" the box.....then it deserves to wither away and DIE! As for you, don't EVER stop a fan of what you love!!!

I'll say this again... I am a fan, but also a businessman. Therefore, I do follow the radio business as well. Yes, I like hip-hop, but I am the biggest fan of music. I am a fan, but not all the time. And most of the time, I am an insider. I listen, observe, and then give my thoughts based on what I see. Call me a fan all you want, but I call it like I see it. And, my recommendations for them is... well I stated already. I stated what is wrong with the station (not neccessarily music, but the lack of professionalism they have, such as showing up late to meetings, being rude to listeners, lack of advertising, not in the community, I will go oon all day, so I'll stop). I hope I do not read another comment about this fan nonsense anymore. I did not know anything about the radio business, I would not have posted this topic in the first place. Merry Christmas!

Heres a reason why they're terrible: They're owned by Entra-lack-of-vision.
They can't make a good station at all... KSFM is much better IMO, but change the slogan at least...

KSFM is just KSFM 102.5... 18 Songs in a Row. No more Sacramento's #1 Station for Hip-hop and R&B (if you're referring to that). But, I like how you called Entravision Entra-lack-of-vision.
