KSPN-AM transmitter site at 12755 Burbank Blvd in Van Nuys

I just saw a post on Nextdoor that the site is for sale. They estimate it is worth 100 million dollars.

If you’ve ever driven past the radio tower field on the corner of Bellaire and Burbank, you know exactly where 12755 Burbank Blvd is. This 19.25-acre site is set to redefine Valley Village with new housing, a rumored asking price of $100M, and endless potential. 🏡✨

This is the largest development opportunity the area has seen in decades, and it could completely transform our community. Is this a good thing for Valley Village?

It took long enough. IMHO all of North Hollywood isn't worth 100/M. I wonder if Sherman Oaks has extended further northward by now.
The area is an mix of modest single family homes and apartments along the main drags. Those aren't going anywhere. A fitness center to the south. There is LAVC(ollege) and Grant High next to the west, and most residential. Will it be Whole Foods, ten SFR's or a big apartment building with many coffin units inside? The height caps could make some apartments or condos a mini view property at a fourth floor, esp. toward the south SM Mountains as everything around the land now is one or two stories.

While not as simple as taking a very big pair of dykes to the guy wires, removing towers is not a big task. They can be "made" to crumble in a narrow fall zone and the value of the salvageable metal pays a part of the cost.

They will likely want to remove the ground system, too, as the wires can and usually will jam excavation gear. But the value of the copper is extensive and will pay some of that cost, too.
 
I know, I'm weird but this is a bit painful for me! Gone are the towers I grew up around - 710, 740 (Avalon), 790, 870 (Glendale Hotel), 930, 1020 (Long Beach fwy), 1110, 1150, 1230 (odd fellows building), 1240 (Pasadena Prsby. Church), 1280, 1300, 1500, and probably a bunch more. I still remember when the "clothes hanger" antenna for KGFJ-1230 was the "big K in LA" and was rated #2. 710-KMPC used to be flat from 50-15KHz! (Not so good for XTRA-690 when they were telling everyone to use two radios to hear them in stereo, one tuned left and one tuned right).
 
The "coat hanger" antenna is still there at the SW corner of the I-10 and Hwy 110 from 1230. The north tower is bent over a lot. One day it will fall down.

I still remember reading Don Page's column in the Times way back when, extolling the technical virtues of KMPC. He wrote something like: "They're so smooth, and sound as good as any FM station!"...

What about KRKD 1150? Those two towers on the downtown Arcade Building are protected as historical. Please tell me they're still there!

They diplexed with 1110 KWVE in Irwindale, correct? The new KSPN site has been reportedly damaged due to the wildfire but I haven't heard anything yet about KWVE?

I doubt they could even move back to the old site as an emergency measure, even if they wanted to. (That, of course, is of least concern.)
