KSSK-AM-FM -- Triple The Ratings of #2?

In the latest Nielsen ratings, KSSK-AM-FM has nearly three times the ratings of second ranked Contemporary KDDB. KSSK is an AC station owned by iHeart, 92.3 FM and 590 AM. It has a very popular morning show, Perry and the Posse, featuring long-time host Michael W. Perry.

KSSK has the highest ratings of any station in the Top 100 markets. The station is #1 all year long. And it goes all-Christmas in much of November and December, giving it an added boost. But now, well after the holidays, the ratings are still sky-high! Other AC stations are popular in Honolulu, Soft AC KPOI, Rhythmic AC KUMU and Hot AC KRTR. But added together, they don't equal KSSK's ratings.

The only other similar case I know of was the 23-year string of #1 shares of around 15 points for WPRM and its repeaters in Puerto Rico, a top 15 market of about 3.2 million 12+ while Honolulu is less than a million in 12+.

But WPRM no longer held that position after about 2007 when it lost it's morning show. But for a over two decades it was between a 14 and 15 in every book.

I have the privilege of spending quite a bit of time here on the islands and am currently on Oahu for a month. One thing I've observed here is powerful brand loyalty. A perfect example is the fact that CVS still brands their stores as Longs Drugs, which is an SF Bay Area brand. They kept it Hawaii, but converted the stores in the Bay Area and NorCal to CVS. Even the Target stores in Hawaii have Longs instead of CVS.
