KTAR FM RECEIVES EDWARD R. MURROW EXCELLENCE IN BROADCAST JOURNALISM AWARD

LADIES AND GENTLEMEN (INCLUDES DOCTOR AND NURSE)

HERE'S WHAT REALLY COUNTS.

Radio and Television News Directors Association (RTNDA) presented 13 Murrow awards to large market radio stations. 3,459 entries. KTAR FM news team named one of nations best.

The station was honored in the category Best Continuing Coverage for the station's work in covering
illegal immigration.

NO FURTHER COMENT NEEDED, THE AWARD SPEAKS FOR ITSELF

Aw c'mon Jay, you don't think you'll get a "no further comment
needed" past this board, do ya? ;D

Lesee here...

First, you are correct sir. KT'R-FM beats 55/FYI in news coverage
by a long shot. Mega dittoes...oops, I mean mega congrats. :)

But then there's Aunt Carlos, Glenn "six-hour rain delay" Beck,
Mac & Cheese, Michael Dixon, and Grandpa Gerald. ::)

Deputy Dan and his KRUX Glendale-centric traffic. (I suppose
a more contemporary reference would be "KT'R-FM Glendale-
centric" traffic.)

"Yeah, Ned..."
"Yeah, Connie..."
Or this week: "Yeah, Sharpemeister..."
(Someone want to encourage otherwise top-notch reporter
Jim to dispense with the much too colloquial "yeah..."?)

Sports conflicts spilling--or written contractually (why?)--
over to 92.3 from Sports Parking Lot 620. Thanks to the
Master Blogger for this one!

But enough of the negativos. KT'R won an Edward R. Murrow
award. 55/FYI won the Edward B. Youn award, which is a box
of electrical transcriptions containing SFX from the 1950s. ;)

I thought I was the only person who noticed it! Everytime someone throws to Mr. Cross live, he starts like that. Maybe that's his signature.

Did you all hide Aunt Carlos travelling across the border and acting like he was wearing a yamulke and dancing in downtown Beirut?

Worst stunt ever.

Maybe master blogger will finally add something now?

Too bad the deadline passed or the Master Blogger could have submitted that riveting piece of journalism which led all KT'R newscasts on 4/01! Maybe next year? ;) ;)

Awards are great for morale, but they don't mean squat to listeners. BTW--love Austin Hill filling in for Aunt Carlos this week. Seems like Austin is on more often than Aunt Carlos.

And Pat McBland is the only one who remembers who Edward R. Murrow was! ;D

I'm listening to Austin now, he does well. Though he doesn't suffer the fools (elderly ladies complaining about how much makeup Cindy McCain wears) well. Nor should he. It seems that Edna from Sun City still lives on KTAR.

Keep Austin, dump Dumb Daryl.

Well once the blow up Jamz,, I say bring back Kid to do afternoons, bump Mac to the Beck slot and bring on Hill for the Ankarlo shift.

Austin Hill is an ass.

Yes, "newstalk 92 3" should find a permanent place for Austin Hill, he sound great on the air there. And yes Hill probably beats Ankarlo in an intelligence contest everytime. But Ankarlo is smart too (I actually bought his book and its very good). Actually the dumbanddumber part of ktar's daily lineup begins at 3pm and ends at 10pm.

I understand that FM is supposed to make newstalk more young and hip. But its still "newstalk," and some intelligence is required. Listen to the promo thats running right now for Watson. In the promo he says "I'm not doing anything with my stimulus check" and then he says "I'm buying gasoline with it." I"m doing nothing with it, and I'm doing something with it. Okay, great. The promo producer never should have put that stuff in a promo, but the point is Watson says stuff like that all the time. This isn't the morning show on Movin 97-5. It's "newstalk," and your choice of words and your ability to speak in precise terms actually matters. And Gaydos? Since when is it young and hip to speak of yourself in the third person? Ed McMahon did that. So did Bob Dole. Rush Limbaugh is pushing 60 and he talks about himself all the time but he has the sense to speak in the first person. But Gaydos? Oh, no....Gaydos is to cool to speak of himself in the first person....Gaydos knows what Gaydos likes......here's the lineup: Ankarlo Mornings, Austin Hill Afternoons, Mac Watson nights (whether he does something with his stimulus check or not).

I think Austin Hill should have a spot in the line up, he is much better now that he does not have Liddy riding on his coat tails. I think Daryl needs to go!

KTAR News definately beats KFYI, they deserved the awards!
