KTCK opts out of their contract with the Cowboys

Not really surprised by this move. I think I would be more shocked if 105.3 doesn't get the Cowboys. That seems to be their number one goal with the format change.

...and all the talk that Jr. Miller and Dunham did this morning on the show about people doubting them....Sounds like a quitter move to me...

OK, we all see where the Cowboys are about to move to.

I'm curious if the same timing with next season will coincide with the expiration of Jagger and his lame show's contract's. Then a new "Sports" morning show comes in and takes that place?

Maybe Dunham and Miller leave KTCK for KRLD FM.

I'm not sure I buy this "opts out" thing. Shouldn't that be more like "...loses rights after Cowboys moved to CBS' The Fan"?

I don't think any of those guys will leave unless they all go at the same time. Did you hear them tonight? 15 freakin years they have been doing this and they love it.

As for the Cowboys, who cares? It isn't going to hurt the Ticket one bit. I think it is a bigger loss for the Cowboys than it is the Ticket.

The story I hear is that there was a 30-day exclusive negotiating period that started at seasons end. And CBS may have a deal done, but they can't announce anything until KTCK's 30 days are up without getting into legal hot water. This clears the way for Jerry/CBS to announce their deal (next week at the super bowl? )

And this could be that strangest of animals, a win-win for everybody. The Ticket supposedly saw no ratings bump from having the games, and since Jerry has all the spot inventory, didn't really have a chance to make money on the games. Now they lose the cowboys, but pick up a franchise that while isn't as popular, gives them a lot more games and a lot more station inventory to sell.

CBS can afford to give up a ton of inventory on 105.3, it's a brand new station with no ratings track record in the current format. They can use the cowboys to market their station to sports fans, and not have to lay out cash themselves for billboards, TV, etc.

The story I heard was more like...

Cumulus: We want you to pay us for the broadcasts....

Jerry: You want ME to pay YOU $2.5 Million so you can criticize my team on your shows all day???

Seems like that is where the negotiations hit a snag. Get ready for 105.3 to be the most boring station in the market when all of their personalities have to stifle their opinions in order for the station to keep the rights.

Dunham and Miller have 3 more years on their contracts.

Bigger loss for the Cowboys?? Yeah, 2 crappy signals, neither of which is synched to cable television sounds like a BIG loss for the Cowboys..

In this business you never know. If CBS offers them a huge pile of cash, plus the ability to bring over Gordon Keith, they may just do it...

I think the move to 105.3 fits in quite nicely with the image of The Cowboys, more as "entertainment", and not much as "sports".

And, I don't need The Ticket cluttered with 4 hour blocks of game coverage. But wait.... they're going to do that anyway....just with another sport....

Perhaps Gordo is too in love with watching himself on TV these days. Surely a move from The Ticket to a CBS-owned station wouldn't bode well with Channel 8 (well, Channel 52.) Maybe Channel 11 would move the show there? Maybe Channel 52 could fill that gap in scheduling with classic "Hot Tkts" reruns? ::)

Which of the several local cable companies do you wish for them to sync their broadcast with? All the local cable outlets, plus Direct TV, and Dish Network have different encoding and processing delays. Same with analog vs. digital over the air broadcast. If you get it right on one then several others will be off. These days it's pretty impossible to have a "balls on" sync with TV.
