KTRB's Tribute To San Francisco Radio Stations Of Past!

I read about KTRB's stunt #2 sounds better than stunt #1. I wish I can hear it but not being in California and KTRB not streaming their station, I cannot hear it. I had a friend tape "The Heavy 860" stunt for me and I plan to have him tape this next stunt. Actually the stunts sound better than the upcoming format they plan..."Truth Radio"? Any opinions of this new KTRB stunt/tribute to San Francisco stations of past? What stations do they air? I am assuming KFRC-610, KYA-1260,KSFO-560? What others?

I would not describe anything that KTRB has done or is doing as a stunt. They are by no means pretending that this will be their progaming especially with their announcements. It would be better described as their introduction or commencement programing. They have solicited listener comments on the air and have received hundereds of e mail responses. They have considered thoses responses in finalizing their programing and yes the "San Francisco Sound" will be part of KTRB's future.

During this time the KTRB engineers have been busy working on the phasing and audio processing as you will remember this is a brand new just constructed station. The phasing has been smoothed out and the audio processing adjusted so we have a cleaner and wider frequency responce in the City and the East Bay.

I heard an MOR station tonight with the call letters eliminated, it was an older style that had music and comments. Then I heard Tom Donahue on KSAN which was good to hear. Later was Dr. Don Rose with the KFRC jingles. It is always good to hear Dr. Don Rose. Right now there is a phone interview on with John Lennon.

Now it is identified as "the KTRB tribute to San Francisco radio" It is really strange to hear traffic reports (in the middle of the night) and hear the same traffic jams that we report on today (during drive times).

A lot of time has gone into developing this special feature. So if you want to hear it, fly trans-love airways to San Franciso and and tune in the new 860 Khz. KTRB directly.

This has been a project that the great Kevin Barrett, KTRB/KMPH program director, has spearheaded for the past few months -- we actually started working on it last November -- and it's something that I'm proud to have played a small role in.

(Yes, that's my miserable voice you'll hear on occasion during this "salute" on KTRB. Sorry.)

Kevin's idea was to do something different during the "stunting" period instead of simply running construction noises, and the "San Francisco Sound" music programming (which will continue as a weekend feature) and the Bay Area radio history salute were his ideas. Anybody who sat through CBS' cacophony of noises prior to the launch of Free FM 106.9 probably doesn't have a problem with this.

I had a nice conversation with Kevin this morning ... he has a few more tricks up his sleeve. They may not be gunning after KGO, but it's going to be very interesting to see how this station develops over the next few months.

Rumor has it KTRB will air an all women talk network...

It's been a blast hearing the old air checks of yesterday, it goes to prove like the traffic reports of yesterday the more things change the more they stay the same. KTRB really is waking up radio and making it exciting again just sorry to hear about the same 'ol talk format. Now if we can only bring back the gas prices of the 70's we would be onto something.
