KTU played the BALLAD version of DHT's "Listen to Your Heart"

Earlier today around mid afternoon I flipped on KTU & heard the BALLAD version of DHT's "Listen To Your Heart". Now I know they play the dance version as well, but what exactly is going on with their thinking on this one??? I just don't get it. Although it would wtill be dumb, their woul;d at least be somewhat of an explanation if the dance version hasn't gotten much support in the area. However their sister station CHR Z100 plays the dance version a decent amount as does suburban CHR WSPK K 104 from Poughkeepsie, suburban CHR WBLI on LOng Island primarily plays the dance version and you also have Party 105 on Long Island which always plays the dance version. KTU can sound pretty good (AT TIMES) but then will throw in some things that just absolutley baffles me. As a station that c;laims o be "The Beat of NY" they throw in a ballad version of a song, when the dance version of the song is actually more popular in the NYC metro areas (city & burbs) Just makes no sense.

Z100 is playing the dance verison too.

Sometimes stations will play a ballad of a dance tune or vice versa, if they feel or see in research that the 1 version is burning out.

For this case, the ballad, which is good, don't belong on KTU. I heard it against the leading and trailing tunes a few times and sounded WAY out of place.
______________

I know some stations will play either or, all 3 CHR stations I listed play both versions (both K 104 & Z100 are about a 60% dance, 40% ballad split) BLI is about 90% or so dance, little less than 10% ballad. I can understand the CHR stations playing the ballad version sometimes, but its completley out of place on KTU. This reminds me of about a year or two ago when Lionel Richie's "Dance with my Father" was out in which most of the dance oriented stations (including Party 105) played the dance version, but KTU played the ballad as well & for a period played the ballad more than they did the dance remix version.

It is completely about the demos! If the ballad version tests higher with the group KTU is trying to reach during that daypart, then KTU will play the ballad version.

I'd love to go along with the thinking that KTU (or any other station) will stay true to their format simply because it's their format but that's just not true anymore. It's all about money nowadays.

BLASPHEMER!

> Lionel Richie's "Dance with my Father"

Lionel Ritchie is a far, far, far cry from the late, great Luther Vandross.

As for stations playing tunes that don't exactly fit the format: You guys do understand the concept of research, right? That's not meant to sound belittling or anything. I'm just wondering if folks understand how these decisions are made.
